I always try to "give back" to the G8 community whenever I am able, and I'm proud to announce that I've partnered with GTPPrix to provide IWM/VIM Flashing at the 2012 iNternational G8 Meet!

I will be equipped to do VIM/IWM flashing, optionally changing the radio startup logo logos and optionally converting radio screen text from red to blue, at the g8 meet in Iowa for anyone who wants to participate in this group buy event. This is a PRE-PAY EVENT, NO EXCEPTIONS.

VIM = Video in Motion
IWM = Input While Moving

Both definitions above mean the same thing.

Input While Moving allows your stock G8 headunit to utilize the rear auxiliary input (located on the right side of the radio housing behind the triangle-shaped plastic panel under the glovebox) without the stock programming interrupting the feed as it normally would. This allows the stock headunit to double as a navigation unit or whatever else you would like to display on it. It could allow you to display pertinent realtime engine metrics information information (dashboss or similar style product) or even "coverflow" album art to show on the radio faceplate while your device is playing "rear aux audio" at the same time. Many have found that the rear aux audio signal quality is higher than the 1/8" "headphone jack" front aux signal quality.

There are many threads regarding sourcing or making rear-aux radio cables, however I will try to have a few high-quality shielded cables on hand at the event if people would like to buy them separately.

Here's what I am offering:

IWM ACTIVATION (required for IWM/VIM and required before any of the below options can be chosen): $100

(optional) + change startup logo to chevrolet, holden, or holden crest (See pictures below): +$50

(optional) + change lcd faceplate red font to blue, (See bottom picture below): +$50

So for example, If you wanted the Holden startup logo and VIM, you'd paypal $150 to paypal@zepcomperformance.com (don't forget to cross-reference your username along with your payment) and send me a PM with your VIN and that you request the holden startup logo option.

I have the blue font on mine (as well as the holden startup logo) and can confirm that in my experiences, the blue is easier to read in the direct sunlight. HTH!

Hey Zep, how have ya been!? I saw that pic with the dashboss and the dashcommand, is this similar to the dashhawk? I would love to have realtime engine data displayed on my head unit like you have shown there. Is the dashboss an additional piece of hardware that I would have to purchase seperately in order to get this data displayed? Also, do any of the realtime engine metric options show oil pressure at all? Really glad you are gonna make the trip this year!!! Any additional info that you could provide about what kind of engine metrics and the supporting hardware of software needed to run them would be great!!! Thanks and have a great evening!

For dashcommand, YES, DOES NEED JAILBROKEN unfortunately. :(

For dashboss, no! :)

Native video out in dashboss for both "grid data mode" (as shown in the pics) or alternatively "gauge mode" depending on personal preference!!

I helped the makers of dashboss debug and develop their product offering on the G8, and especially helped with the video out features, as shown, with my car. I received no financial compensation from dashboss for this testing, but was motivated for the direction I was trying to help the product go. Mainly for my Gentex LCD mirror setup, but it also can be set up to display on the radio faceplate as well.

It works on factory-apple-fresh iphone4/iphone4s as well as ipads, although admittedly, the performance is much better on the ipad series.
Too ancient "ipod touch" and "iphone3" are not recommended for dashboss.

Dashboss consists of a bluetooth gateway module that plugs into the ODB2 port and has 2 optional "input" feeds (wide band O2, external temp sensors, boost, EGT, etc) and wirelessly communicates with your apple iOS device. I've installed several of these since last august, not including my car.

you can learn more about dashboss by visiting dashboss.com. My pricing is lower than their website pricing, but I have limited quantities. The focus of this thread is not to advertise dashboss (but I don't mind answering questions, so thank you for asking!) but rather to show the various capabilities of how the VIM/IWM mod could be used responsibly.

I will be demoing dashboss, VIM, rearview camera functionality, gentex LCD mirror, coverflow, and android GPS support at g8gone on my car, as well as having a few to sell if all goes as planned.... :)

My car display still only shows the screen size of the IPod and is not streached like yours in the picture for the Dashboss App. It's been a while since I've logged into the website to see if that was fix from an update. The video Out in move mode does streach the full screen just not the dashboss APP.

Zep, I wish I was going I would be all over this. Next time you are in the Carolinas you need to hook up a brother....gl with the event, watchout for those speed traps otw and if you get stopped let em know your brother is a LEO.....may or may not work.......lol
