View Full Version : Advice on Obnoxious Exhaust Please!

So after reading the first 35 pages in the exhaust I still haven't found answer.
All I been seeing is the same thing over and over about drone, or how much power this and that makes. Or even what is a quiet exhaust for the car.
Being young, I want obnoxiously loud. I ain't talking about garbage truck loud. I am talking about v8 6.0 obnoxious.
For those of you that don't know the mod list:
Kooks 1 7/8
Kooks HFC
Magnaflow X pipe
Magnaflow exhaust
This set up is great but it's a little too tame for me.
So far I been thinking about DMH eCutouts. Concern for rattling and not much customer support when returning for warrenty work.(so i have read)
So let me know on what you guys think on a new set up or ecutouts etc. Thanks guys.

Find a local shop to get rid of the cats and make you a 3" w xpipe and no mufflers and resonantors

Corsa or magnaflow race series muffler. No cats. H pipe or xpipe. 3in exhaust.
Will be loud.
Mine is loud as it sits. If you want me to load a video let me know

I have Kooks 1 7/8" LT headers, Volant CAI with K&N cone filter, straight pipe no cats from headers to a Magnaflow midmuffler which PatG discovered eliminates most if not all the drone for us LT guys then I have straight pipe to dual exhaust tips. The only muffler on there is the Magnaflow midmuffler and the sound is loud, obnoxious and crisp. It's the Magnaflow 12468 5x8x20 muffler with internal x-pipe.

If you want obnoxious, go with Kooks LTs + HFC + Kooks mid-pipe + solo axlebacks. It will be obnoxious and sinister all in one package with very low drone
Don't screw with any mufflers or mid-mufflers, because they're just going to quiet things a little and you don't want that. With what I proposed, your only sound reducing components would be the high flow cats...It should be right down your alley. This setup was so loud, I couldn't make my car quiet even if I tried easing the throttle. I've since swapped the solos for GXPs and they are perfect for my liking.

If you want obnoxious this is the setup to have. I followed G8 GT V8 out of his neighborhood one night before the track. Even at residential 25 mph speeds it was obnoxious as hell. Sounded good, but definitely loud.

Here ya go. The first person in the video has Kooks LT's, Kooks catted midpipe and Solo axleback. Video's never do a good job replicating what you hear in person, but I took the video and this was as as loud as they come. No drone, but my God was it loud! Make sure to listen in HD

SLP sounds nice in person. The sound increase comes from removing the stock cats. They do a good job of quelling sound.

First delete your axelbacks with straight pipes.. Then if you want louder delete the magmaflow mid for a xpipe which leaves you at straight pipes

anyone with DMH opinions?
WickedMom
09-03-2012, 08:12 PM
Do this.
Step 1, NO DMH.
Step 2, Have a piece fabbed up by an exhaust shop so that you can just unbolt or bolt on the cats when you need them for inspection. (this is a really nice feature of having the mids)
Step 3, leave cats off and recheck... see what you think.
Step 4, look at the PMFL straight pipe. A lil spendy, but pretty with the stock tips
Step 5, NO DMH

Dmh is to rough for me they sounded ok but I didn't think it held up/ worked well enough for a DD also the sound will be coming from right underneath your seat which is very unpleasant after a week.. I got rid of mine and if I wanted loud I'd go straight pipe

The Magnaflow x pipe on the car is a tru x, not a mid muffler.
The car is 1 7/8 kooks mids, HFC kooks cats, x pipe, magnaflow axle back.
I had Pypes Violators on it once, but EVERYONE in my family complained it was too loud. They celebrated the day I switched them out.

That makes things easy have a muffler shop fab up a straight pipe or some dumps that can bolt up to xpipe... Then you can go straight pipe / magnaflow/ stock with 4 bolts in your driveway and it's gunne be 50-100$ done.

I'll offer again here (vice the OB)...You can use my straight pipe ABs w/ J-pipes and see if you like the "no muffler" tone. Try it for a few months to see if it's your cup-o-tea. If you decide you like it, you can have a shop copy my work. Let me know...I'm almost local to you.

What is it with this DRONE trend when it comes to custom exhaust? Im sick of hearing people who dont know what they are talking about want a 1000HP car with an exhaust that will sound great on a long trip down the e-way with grandma in the passenger seat. Make it fast and make it roar. "Oh the drone wears me out". "Oh drone sux." Well welcome to the fast car club buddie. If ya dont like drone in your V8 exhaust buy a Honda and put a fart can on that n Buzz around town trying to race every V8 ya see.

I never once mention anything about drone. Obviously you haven't been here long enough to know there is a solution to the drone for the g8s anyway.....
You should really start a introduction post and read ALL the pages of the thread before you start coming in here and act like you know what you talking about...

What's with the people that can't understand that a car can sound good and NOT drill a hole into the side of your head at the same time? Using a little simple math and creating a length of pipe that you weld into your exhaust doesn't change the harmonics of what is coming out the tail pipe; only that which is in the cabin and is most annoying to the driver/passengers.
Also, this is a performance sedan, not a muscle car. We can want all the power in the world and not want the drone if we so choose.
Otherwise, GET OFF MY LAWN.
