Hello guys
I would like to see if anyone is running lowered springs combined with either the Koni Sports or the Monroe GT Sport shocks/struts.
I am seeking the best comfort setup while lowered and better handling.
I am currently running stock FE2 shocks/struts lowered with Kings Springs SSL fronts and SL rears.

Koni Sports all the way. I've had Koni's for all of my cars and they have always been great, lasted long and were very predictable.

Thanks for your input tempo8.

Yep, I have them on half soft with a quarter more to the stiff side to the rear.

And how's the drive comfort? Are you lowered? What strut mounts are you using?

It's great. The car is lowered on H&R Sport Springs which lower the car about 1.4" all around. Very nice drop that's not too aggressive and the match with the Koni's makes this a much more predictable ride than stock. You do get a little more road feedback and the car reacts a little faster to bumps, but by no means is it uncomfortable. Passengers never notice and it's made driving a lot more fun.

I only had Koni's on my old DD which was an 89 MR2 but I was impressed with how they handled. Based on how people like them for the G8 it looks like I may be picking up a set for the car.

I was set to go with the Koni's too until someone responded that they had them and despised them except when on a road course.
That was a clear indication that they would be too harsh for me because the G8 is our trip car and need to find a comfortable middle ground. So FE3's are on my list.

Yeah, hayabusa160 and others like them and the adjustability sold me but when someone (I forget, it was more than a year ago) directly responded with the "despise" description, that scared me away from the Koni's. If I were the only driver, with the occasional passenger(s), I would do it. But this being the trip car, with the wife, I need to be real careful not to go over the line.
On the same note I recall someone removing their Pedder GSRs for the same reason.

Damn :S
I guess I'll just go with the Monroe gt sport from all choices.

Aden had them and hated them. Not sure of the reason tho.

Well, on a road course, you want the car super buttoned down. No un-necessary motion in the car's suspension. The shocks need to be valved super tight to get this but you end up feeling every crack in the road.
Here's where the adjustable shocks come in. The idea is that you can dial them tight or loose, apparently the Koni's when dialed loose, still made every crack in the road come through. Hence the response that he "despises" them except when on a road course. This is unfortunate as Koni set them up tight and tighter. Probably they were limited by the physical adjustability inherent in the hardware.

Koni sports are only adjustable for rebound. The compression damping is fixed, so overall ride harshness can't be adjusted. On other cars I've found Koni's with stock rate springs to be a nice upgrade. When combined with stiffer lowering springs, ride quality will be much more "race oriented."

That's important to know as usually with adjustables, the ratio between rebound and compression is fixed and the overall dampening is adjusted. It also explains why they would be harsh and not for me.

That sums it up.
Thank you sir! I guess going with the Monroe's are my best bet for a DD car

Had Konis on a previous car. I preferred the Bilstein HDs to them. Honestly, Id probably just pick up some FE3s.

For the minor price difference why not go with the Monroe's especially when lowered

Yeah, in spite of being a hard-ass, it does get sensitive with age. Hey, I remember the 70s Buicks! Didn't own one since it was an old man's car. I had a couple sporty Oldsmobiles though.
Its more about appreciating the finer things in life. I'll get the G8 dialed in without the harshness.
