I am not sure if I am allowed to post the name of the shop or not, but they are opening a Garage in Plano, TX where you can rent a bay for pretty cheap.
FYI... I do not work for this place or have any other invested interest other than wanting to see them stick around so I can take advantage when I need it.
They have 18 bays and most all of them have a lift.
They rent by the hour, half day, full day, and week. They even offer monthly rental.
It's for the DIY guy, moonlighting mechanics, or weekend warrior. They provide craftsman tools, air compressor, impact wrench, 7 flat screen TV's, a lounge... it's a pretty nice little place.
I happen to stumble across it through my job and got to check it out early. The owner seems extremely cool and opened it for all the reasons why you would want to.
They have their Grand Opening Sept 1st from 3-7pm.
If you swing buy during the opening, he will be giving out 30% of your first rental.
Works out for me as I just purchased an ARH system and am about to install it. Why crawl around on the ground under jacks stands for 4 hours when I can rent a space with a lift for $23/hour and knock it out in 2 hours or less.
Another good thing is if you are changing fluids (oil...) they will dispose of the old oil for you.
Now I just need to persuade him to install a DYNO :)
Once again, I do not know if I can post their info but feel free to PM me and I will send you what I have.

Awesome! I need their info. I tried to find a place when I did my headers and catback, but couldn't and it sucked doing the install on jack stands.

Something like that is a service to the members and no conflict with any sponsors. Post away.

Yes please post info i'm extremely interested. I had always wished there could be shops you could rent out that cheap especially for when I had to use a big ass tree branch and a come along for my stroker in my pickup and the other 8 sbc's and 2 bbc's.I think our tree needs a break now

I do plan on going to the grand opening on Sept 1st. I also plan on installing my headers and exhaust there. I imagine I could cut installation time in half with a lift.
I was also joking with my buddies, but I said I would rent 2 bays side by side. So I can work in one bay and have all my buddies in the next bay hanging out, drinking, and telling me how I'm doing it all wrong. :)
That would make it feel more like home.

I'm excited about this place. For your exhaust work, do you plan on driving there and waiting for the exhaust to cool, or dropping the car off in the parking lot and going back later?

I can imagine a future group outing to this place, reserving a bay for a day or two and having some fun.

I always wondered how it would work to keep a place like that open, to keep tools etc from walking away. Not everyone works on the honor system these days.

I would think there would be a tool locker that someone works in that checks out the tools with a CC or something. They must all be returned before you leave or get charged 2x what the cost new is.

Turned out awesome. The place is great and the tools they had came in handy. People are great too. I had several friends there and it was fine. They are having their grand opening between 5 and 7 tonight. Having raffles and giving away stuff. Cooking out for everyone too. I'm headed back shortly to eat some grub. Oh, and the exhaust turned out awesome! http://img.tapatalk.com/ad4aa655-7e5f-6563.jpg

Looks like you were in good company. Was that a real Cobra, or a replica?

That one looked like a kit. Looked nice but modern interior and accessories give it away. There was a blue one that looked closer to the real deal.http://img.tapatalk.com/aee5c484-b075-d4f1.jpg

Great to have places like that for DIY......and hanging out for beers with friends. Saves a lot of money in the long run!

I miss the base auto shops we had when I was in the military. Nice to have a place to work when you need it.

Note: this is not a paid/discounted/incentivized review

Had a grrrr8 experience at Jack Junkies today and did the following:
-Oil Change
-Brake Fluid flush
-Tire rotation w/TPMS re-learn since I have a full-size spare in rotation
-inspect lots of items

I brought all my own tools, but had to use a few of theirs along the way: hammer & punch (for brake pad inspection) and a tire inflator attachment for their air hose.

Using the lift was all sorts of awesome. At the little table in my bay, I had Wifi set up to check email off and on (and to look up the tire rotation pattern), and playing some music. I was a little self-conscious at first, but settled in pretty quick. The temperature was great, and some guys next to me were working on a transmission.

Pretty soon, it sounds like they'll be offering various types of classes/tech sessions, maybe starting with how you can do your own regularly scheduled preventative maintenance at their shop for much less than at a regular shop. After checking their website, the classes are listed here: linky (http://jackjunkies.com/learnhowtodiy.html)

And, if you've ever wanted to just help out & learn while watching a pro, you can hire their on-site certified mechanic. He can either do everything for you, or you can help out.

If something goes wrong and you need to leave your car overnight, they have very reasonable overnight storage rates. It sounds like they're thinking about converting some of the jack-stand only bays into longer term/bigger project bays with more 2-post lifts.

This being said, it's not necessarily the best place for all jobs...extensive motor tear down, fabrication, and body work are some that come to mind that wouldn't work well there.

Thanks for the review Toedrag! I keep forgetting about them. I am definitely going there for my next big project, as opposed to jack stands.

Excellent review. I'm glad someone else was able to take advantage. You guys should post when you are planning to go up there. I wouldn't mind hanging out and talking/helping other G8 owners. I need to change my power steering fluid and brake fluid. Maybe someone here can share some tips or even lend a hand down the road.
