I would like to start by saying that I dont know anything about cams. And would like to ask which cam is better. The ZR1 cam or the ZL1 cam. Is one more agressive that the other? Is it the same one? Thanks

from camaro5
.480" / .480", 198 / 216 @ .050" for the LSA
211/230 @.050 valve lift and .558/.552 for the LS9

IMO there are better options out there

Ummm, can I choose "neither" as an option...An LS3 cam would be better....

Not enough runner length for that cam to work right.....with a maggie.

why would anyone go throught the trouble of changig the cam only to go with something that barely gets any additional power or is designed for your goals?

If that's going to be a N/A upgrade, I'd stick with stock.

I know I saw a thread somewhere that a gxp put in an ls9 cam and gained like 25whp. Would think for the gt, it would be more like 40-50 which isn't bad.

I dont know how much a custom cam would usually run but i would think you would at least be better of with like a Livernois 1c cam than the ones you have mentioned. There are much more educated guys on this forum than i though...

In that case, the LS9 cam would work pretty good. Plus it's a bargain!

Livernois has some really good off the shelf cams. But if you want to maximize your performance, know where you want your powerband, idle, drivability, mileage, etc. then get a custom cam with the specs you want to meet your goals.

Isn't the worst part about cams the labor for us with odd delete? I hear dod delete kit and cam is like 1200$ how many hours are charged with the work? I can get a tune for cheap now that I've fronted the cash for mine already

The labor alone is between 1200-1500 for a cam swap.

The LS9 cam is extremely inexpensive. With that said a normal cam is only a couple hundred more. Your in there and you might as well do it right the first time. Have Pat Spec you a cam that will be best suited for you.

To answer OP question. The zR1 camshaft is the better choose in most any applications.
I have spoken to a few guys past 800hp running that camshaft.
Another thing to consider is the split duration which the ls3 style head seems to love. Have seen cases of 35rwhp from this cam swap on a stock ls3.

I am not expert but it is some food for thought.
It all depends on what you are looking for.
