All 2008 and most 2009 G8's may have an issue in cold weather climates where the hood cable fills with water, then freezes. When you go to add washer fluid, check oil, etc. you won't be able to open your hood.
There is a Service Bulletin from GM on the way.
The problem is that the Holden vehicles are Right-Hand drive. So is the hood latch design on the G8. The hood cable exits the hood latch on our "passenger" side, then droops below the latch while travelling back to the handle on our "driver's" side. Water collects at the bottom of this droop and freezes.
The bulletin will have the dealership replace the hood cable, and add a new clip that forces the cable to travel upwards from the latch before going into the droop. This prevents water from being ingested. If you look at the newest 2009 vehicles, you may see the new routing and new clip already in place.
Hope this helps any one who has seen this issue.
