All 2008 and most 2009 G8's may have an issue in cold weather climates where the hood cable fills with water, then freezes. When you go to add washer fluid, check oil, etc. you won't be able to open your hood.
There is a Service Bulletin from GM on the way.

The problem is that the Holden vehicles are Right-Hand drive. So is the hood latch design on the G8. The hood cable exits the hood latch on our "passenger" side, then droops below the latch while travelling back to the handle on our "driver's" side. Water collects at the bottom of this droop and freezes.

The bulletin will have the dealership replace the hood cable, and add a new clip that forces the cable to travel upwards from the latch before going into the droop. This prevents water from being ingested. If you look at the newest 2009 vehicles, you may see the new routing and new clip already in place.

Hope this helps any one who has seen this issue.

Wondered what the deal was. About half the time that I go to open the hood, it's stuck. I assumed it had something to do with the cold (damn Iowa), but I though it might have had something to do with the deatiling the dealer did since there hasn't been much thaw since then. Thanks for the info.

I wonder where the clip goes, maybe existing cables can be modded. I do not want a dealer to touch this car again. They fix one thing while breaking another!

GM Service bulletin #09-08-63-003: Hood Primary Latch Release Requires Excessive Effort or Will Not Function, Frozen Cable (Install Cable Tie, Install Revised Hood Latch Release Cable).

If you have had this problem, or do in the future (next winter), your dealership should now be able to see this bulletin.

For all vehicles after VIN 8L147421

For all vehicles after VIN 8L147421MFEWS6, any reason it is not for cars before that VIN break?
