What a shame. If I didn't already own a G8 I'd be all over this.

How can you tell? Is it just off of VIN?

yeah, last 3 numbers of the VIN.

yeah, last 3 numbers of the VIN.

To be sure it's a 1st 888, the 2 numbers before the last three must be 88.
This vehicle is obviously.

All 1st 888 vins have L988XXX

yeah i was gonna add in that part but i was unsure what the code was before the last 3 numbers.

Why? Remember, there is nothing special about having one of the 1st 888. It was a marketing scam that caused some people to over pay for their cars. (Remember the $5000 dealer/market Adjustment??)

Other than the sticker on the dash, there is nothing special about these cars. No extra power, No extra options.

Very true. Dealers are known for doing that crap. We had a dealer here that had a used G8 that was one of the first and even used they were asking 32K for it because it was "One of the first 888". Sad part is someone paid that for it vs the brand new one beside it for 30k.

SO does that mean they just jump around on VIN numbers? Numerically min eis lower than that one, so if its ascending I should have an earlier one, if its descending then 837,666 were produced between us lol

And what makes you think I would buy it from him at the price he's asking. The dealer here tried selling me my used car for 29k(which was the retail according to pricing books and sites) and I drove it off the lot at 21k OTD. Met the person who traded it in and he told me that he traded it into the dealer for 25k towards his 09 cuz he had to have bluetooth and xm radio.

And you're exactly right about the marketing ploy, but there is no way in hell I would ever pay a dealer what he's asking. Unless they were giving it to me for free. :)

So yes, I do wish I had the chance to get this one. Because then I could feel special in my own little way knowing that I was able to buy one of the first 888 and not have to pay the markup that some ended up paying on theirs...and possibly make out like a bandit on the dealer. :headbang:

I'm glad I have one of the 1st 888. Maybe it doesn't have any special options, but it is unique compared to a standard GT.

What month/year were the first 888's built?

The door tag in my car indicates that it was built in 11/07. Is there is any way to find out the exact build day? I know that some folks have been lucky enough to find build sheets in their cars, but I have not located one so far. Would the serial number hold anymore information, like the build date?

Has anyone located any information that would decypher the G8 serial numbers?

I had a Corvette and there were resources available (Corvette Black Book) that decyphered all the serial number codes. Was wondering if anyone found anything for the G8's.

I have looked and haven't found anything. I do have the coding for the Holdens though.
Somewhere.

Doggone, I might be in the market for one, but not ignition orange on the other side of the country.

There is something special about the 888's. It's all in the mind of folks like me that bought one (at MSRP) last March. But to us 888'ers, they will always be special! :nah:
