toasted starter

hey guys what is up ran into an intresting problem the other day in the shop customer came in starter was toasted. When you turn the key from off to acc not crank the starter would kick in this was on a 03 3500 van. Checked the starter relay power on acc at the control terminals. tracked it down to a shorted shift selector on the tranny it was alot of fun to figure out ever herd of that

When you say shift selector are you meaning the transmission range switch on the drivers side of trans. If you are yes I have seen it. Make sure the connector has no issues or it will do it again just like the fuel pump connectors keep killing the fuel pumps.
