Hey guys,
I found a g8, and just wondering what i should be concerned about if anything on buying a higher mileage G8 GT. It has 106k on it, its a 2008. The owner said the topend just gone through as the motor developed a stuck lifter and GM ended up replacing the cam, pushrods, rockers and all gaskets in it. He also said the front right control has been replaced. This is all the info he gave me on it. Is there anything i should ask or look at on this car with that many miles?
Thanks

Sure I would, but like anything else, it's all a matter of price. The bottom-end of our engines is reliable. The problem is with the upper end - DOD (displacement on demand) as mentioned and with the (external) harmonic balancer. Our transmissions are not that good so I would expect to probably have that rebuilt at some point - replace the fluid now if it hasn't already been done. If all 4 control arms up front haven't been replaced, it's about time for the left ones. Check the strut bearings and mounts. Check for any weird noises or feel when turning the wheel in particular. Our driveshafts are problematic for some people; you can search on what the symptoms are but generally a thud/clunk at certain times and possibly rough driving.
Would I pay top dollar for a high mileage G8? Hell no.

FWIW, I've had my GT over 4 years and 71k miles and it's been nothing short of perfect. It still runs as well now as the day I bought it. I have expectations to keep this thing at least another 4 years and probably another 80k miles.

I would have more concerns about a 100K V2 than I would a 100K G8.
There's not a lot to go wrong in the G8 as long as it hasen't been abused or modified. It doesn't even have NAV..The biggest concerns I would have is the DoD stuff and front control arms , but they're not bad enough to overlook an otherwise well mantained car if you're a retired space monkey with a wrench. The transmission might be another area, but regular change intervules are 100K anyway.
Since those items have been addressed other nit-pick stuff to look out for;
broken front seat trim
Leaky valve covers
Leaky trans outputshaft seal.

$13.5K is a "too good to be true," price for a G8 GT.
Salvage titled G8 GTs sell for more than that. If it's too good to be true, it probably is.

Get the vin number and someone here can run a check on it.

I have to agree with this. That price is extremely low for a G8. There's gotta be a catch.

The price might seem low but probably right, I would grab it, at that price anything wrong with it I would fix and drive it, I love my G8, best car i ever drove. I had money down on a 2009 that was 12,500, the guy sold it to the guy who got there 1 hr before me, even though I had cash now and offered him 100 bucks over to let me take it now.

Price is right on. He is going by kbb value and it falls in line.

Guess it depends on your region - you couldn't buy a stripper 2008 V6 with 100K miles on it in the Pacific Northwest for under $15K. Dealers are getting $25K for three year old GTs here - not asking price - selling at.

First, this sounds like private party. Second, how many 100k G8's have you seen for sale? $25k for a well kept, average mile g8 at a dealer is normal.

I ran it through KBB in my zip code and came up with $15K and change. For giggles I ran mine through and came up with almost $26K (for private sale!). Those 106K miles (versus 23K on mine) sure hammered the value - but the price is below KBB and is down at trade-in value. I would be very cautious.

When was the last time you saw a dealer give someone kbb value? Probably offered this guy $10k, especially with those miles. When I was trying to unload my loaded 09 gt last year, I took it to 5 different places. Highest offer was $23k. I had 22,xxx miles. That was about $4k below kbb. Kbb is a joke for trade-in value.
If he can show you the top end work receipts, I say go for it.

KBB in this area is around 13,5 for 95k and above. Seller may just not be a gear head, and is just looking to sell his 100k mileage car.
