Just after dark last night in Marysville, heading home from grandsons basketball game. An elderly (85) woman blew through a stop sign leaving a casino on our left side. We were on the main drag, 4 lane with median strip, doing about 35-40mph. It was foggy, dark and I had headlights and fog lights on. She never looked & we never saw her coming. I never even had a chance to hit the brakes. We hit her dead on the right front wheel, a 2007 Taurus, so it didn't give much. Our car, as you can see, gave alot. She was fine. My wife & I ended up in the emergency room for stiches, X rays and CAT-scan. All are pretty much fine, but my baby (G8 748) looks pretty bad. I sure hope they can, well you know. :hang:  :bye:

Really, we are OK, so pray for G8 748 please, no worries for us peeples!

I'm kinda bummed. :p

Also, perfect time to talk Mrs. Penguin into a GXP.

Glad you're ok.

You need to goto your family doctor and get a form for physical therapy. A month minimum, I'd shoot for 3. The more time you spend, the more you can ask for from the other insurance company. And, Don't Sign Anything! Don't settle, don't even talk to them for a month.

I see a GXP in your future :) Possibly a Maggie on top!

So glad you and your wife are OK.

If you can hang onto the car after the insurance totals it, you could part it out and recoup some of your investment that way.

But the important part is that you are all OK.

"Wow. That engine's huge."

That's a silver lining in the cloud.

Depending on how bad the unibody is, it could be repaired. But, I've worked for years as an alignment technician & have seen it a million times. After an incident of any kind, the car is never right after the repair. Better hope that they just save everyone the time & total it. I hate to see it, but there might be another out there you like better. And, I'm glad that you both are OK.

Thanks all. My wife has bruises from both lap & shoulder harness. She still has chest pain. She is a breast cancer survivor.

All 4 doors opened and closed normally, but my God! How long would it take to get all the front end parts for that poor thing?

I am gonna be ruthless with her insurance Company USAA. I consider the car to be a limited production edition and not replaceable. I doubt there are any G8 GT 888's around in MGM and both packages. Debatable or not, I am insisting that this is/was a collector car and hold out for a direct replacement in perfect shape, or a MGM GXP.

I may only be a little bit sore and only have 4 stiches, but Terri is hurting and I AM PISSED! The other drivers attitude was "well, these things happen".:flame:

Well, at age 75, you'd think she would have enough sense to say, "Maybe I should stop driving." I think that mandatory retests should be in order for all drivers. No matter the age, no matter their driving record.

I know it's the last thing you want to hear, but....

My wife an I were in an accident a few years ago. My friend wrecked his '03 Cobra with us inside. She felt fine for a week or two before the debilitating headaches started. Took 10 months to find the right people to straighten her out, and the headaches still aren't completely gone. Shouldn't be the case for you given the nature of the injuries, but what I'm getting at is; take your time. Make sure everything has come to light before you settle. You can never go back for more.

I'm also glad you're not dealing with Geico. I'm a pretty easy going guy, but I lost it everytime I had to talk to them. I got a lawyer for their sake more than mine. That's another thing I'll add. If you know a lawyer or someone with an understanding of any facet of this sort of thing (insurance agent, physician, chiropractor, etc.), lean on them. As cut and dried as thing might seem, they can get very complicated if the wrong claim adjuster gets involved.

Good luck with everything.

I'va already talked to the guy who got my 888 for me. He said, Camaro SS and I
said GXP and he just said "what color"? :p

I totaled up what all the mods came to and with the Michelin Pilots it's right at $10K.

So, Bought it for just under 32K. Add 10K and that looks like msrp for a GXP.

Glad you and the Mrs are alright. USAA is a good insurance company. Doubt though you will be successful in the collector car claim, but as someone else said, don't sign anything. Talk to an attorney regarding your injuries. Will take several years but you will be compensated for your injuries, trust me on that. May make up for the difference in the ACV (Actual Cash Value) you will receive and the cost of a new replacement. Also, have the wrecked one towed to a place you can access and remove the parts you want to save.

Good luck to you. If it is towed to a shop you know, you may have the ability to remove your mods. Insurance won't care much if it is in fact totaled. They will just write it off and sell it as scrap to recoup their payout loss to you. What is valuable to the scrap yards are the major components. Headers, CAI, ECM, etc are not. No injury. She had a scratch on the back of her hand. Was very nonchalant about the whole thing. Said she might have done a "California" stop, but it was a shame as her Ford 500 was only a year old.

First and foremost, get the medical issues taken care of. Secondly, you will most likely be contacted by USAA and "offered" assistance. Do not accept their assistance. Doing so may prohibit future compensation. Use your no-fault coverage and consult legal advice! Document everything!

Now that they have provided a substitute ride (Chrysler 300), day 2 of the media barrage commences at dawn.

Not only are we documenting everything, we are copying them on the documentation in real time. This seems to cause them some confusion & anxiety. We are on our third case consultant in 2 days. Tnx Steve! Now if they would just do something about the car. I saw it in the daylight today to get some of my stuff out of it at the wrecking yard storage area.

Be advised the G8 is a very solid car. You have seen the pictures, but the damage barely goes to the radiators and all 4 doors operate perfectly with no alignment issues at all. Still waiting for USAA to look at it and decide to rebuild or go to war with me on a replacement. If they total it, and they should'nt, I am holding out for a GXP since I had about 40K in the car and that's GXP msrp territory. :p

I just wonder. When my 2000 Bonnevile SSEi was hit in the same general place 4-5 yrs. ago, it took 3 full months to put it right. And it WAS right. No way to tell it was wrecked. So, 3 months for a car made in the USA with parts "mostly" available.

Hmmm, any guesses on what the rebuild time would be for a car made in Oz, knowing that parts have been a major problem to date? This could get ugly! All it needs is every part from the radiator to the front. :( Everything else looks fine, just mop up the blood on the center console, etc.

Right then, gang! I think I'm f_cked!

Thanks Charlie. It's possible now that they might try to fix it. My 2000 Bonnie SSEi was twanged worse than the G8 the 2nd day I had it. 3 months later, (cripes) it truly was as good as new and I drove it for 4 more years and 93,000 miles with no problems at all.

This has been said many times, but I have been away from the forums for a few weeks. Glad to hear that you and the Mrs. are recovering. Also glad to hear the G8 favored pretty well in a (somewhat) serious accident, since there is no safety data out on them. Sorry to hear about your MGM. I'll lay a strip with my MGM in honor. Hopefully the GXP fairy will stop by your place.

Well, I finally got her away from the tow truck Nazis In Arlington. Just down the road about 3/4 mile at Professional Body now. And they even let me have my garage door opener back. :p

No G8's for rent around here, so I have a Black Chrysler 300 Touring. Can you say pig, slug, barge, POS, etc?

Now I can check on it anytime.:jerkoff::bye:

My wife is not improving at all. I am going to force her to get MRI and CAT scan this week. I'm gonna do the same. My back and rt shoulder are, not so good.

Thanks,

Yeah, you need to get better Penguin or else you won't be able to perform the $66 exhaust mod on your GXP. :)

Yeah, you need to get better Penguin or else you won't be able to perform the $68 exhaust mod on your GXP. :)

Something I noticed, just in front of the rear mufflers on the G8-GT there is a short flex piece of exhaust.

Neither the Commodores here or the GXP have this.
Wonder if it was purely to help with DOD drone ?

My original exhaust had the flex pipe as well.

Are you serious? Looks like they are estimating in Pesos'.

There is no way that the car isn't totaled with that high of an estimate. It's too bad you don't live near me or I would recommend my brother to fix your car. He is super particular about making sure what he fixes is perfect. He isn't speedy but you can be dammed sure it will be right.

That sucks. It didn't look like it was $27,000 of damage.

at 75%, it's totaled. So, on a 35k car, the damage would have to be above $26250.

Looks like your 700 dollars into the totaled limit.

What color GXP are you going to get?

I don't want it fixed now. Even if they do a perfect repair,......in 6-7 months, that will be on the cars record forever. So the resale value is shot. :(

Once they pulled the front loose, you can see that everything clear past the steering rack is mangled. Bad! I hit her dead on the right front wheel, so no give there as it was all axle, transmission and engine. Talk about a fast stop! OW! :(

Yep, thanks. The waiting game is still on. USAA e-mailed Professional Collision to let them know they got the numbers today. Of course I have not have not heard zip.

We both go in for CAT-SCAN and MRI on thursday.

I tried to pull my VMS ECM module out today, but the whole front is crushed back into the block, so no go. I need a crowbar! :p

Or........dynamite! :flame:

Reminds me of a story (un-confirmed) I heard last week.
Some guy tried to smuggle in a new Nissan GT-R in 2 seperate shipping containers into Perth from Japan. There was some fuxup and both containers ended up being at Customs on the same day.

End result - He got frogmarched to the local scrap metal recycling plant to watch his GT-R get made into a cube.

The shop where your car is at should be able to pull the ECM for ya.
Just talk to your contact there and ask.
You don't need to be out there pulling and prying when your hurt.

Rest up and hope you both get well soon.

I guess I had better not try to import any Aussie Utes like that. If I had to watch the destruction, I'd :bm:

Thanks. As the insurance company has chosen to play hide & seek, there is no hurry. They know I want the exhaust, tires, etc. The CAI is flat now.:p

I think if you show them receipts for your CAI, they may reimburse you for it.
After all, it wasn't your fault.
I'd make them pay.
