I'd say gateway is gonna be pretty tough this year. Insurance is the issue and they don't want someone have problems down track.

How is it that some people get away with no cage? Is it all up to the track owner?

MY car is not my DD

Yea all depends on track owner/and safety crew and if they are a NHRA track or outlaw track.

I used to have one on my Mustang Convertible. It was extremely user friendly. The front side bars could be unbolted from the stubs in the front. But that was made in Carlsbad, CA many moons ago. I do not even know if it is nhra legal to have bolt in and snap pins on the high side for the front side bars. Maybe it was more dangerous than not having a side bar. I never had to try it out. :) I too will need one in the cooler weather at Firebird and Speedworld. At my home track in Tucson I do not think I will go under 11.5. Unless it is super cool and one more upgrade or so. Good luck!

Shane how tall are you? This is the main reason I got rid of the G8 after seeing Drugs(Daves). I tried sitting in Daves and it was definitively something I was not willing to do.. Check Daves threads I thought he had pictures of it... (cage is no longer in his car he took in out)

If you do a cage in a street car be sure to put the main hoop far anuff back that you wont have any clearance issues with your head

Was it due to the seat being to far forward? or something else?... can you describe what the issue was a bit more.... head, leg, width? thx much!!

Cage installer should take measurements with you in the car to get it right. There are rules about how far various bars can be from your head too.

FTR I'm 6' 240ish Dave is 5'9 220-230.. I felt like I was on top of the steering wheel in his car.. Head room in the back seats take a hit.. If you are close to 6' in height sitting in the back seat your head will hit the bars (also be careful getting in and out lol) As far a main hop it was as far back as I believe it could go..

cages and 4 doors family cars will never go hand in hand for me... just an odd combination. To each their own.

You have to realize that the back seat is useless with a bar.

Trying to save the back seat gives you the worst of both worlds, no room in the front and no room in the back.

thats why I have no more back seat ...I won't mind a 5-6 point in a 2 seater

There's only so many times u can run before the track
gives you the boot. I don't want to cage my car either. But
I'm on borrowed time.

Is it possible to just write off the back seat and make it so the bar is as far back as possible.... (with seat as far back as it will go and tilted a bit..) so at track you can sit far back as possible and meet the head to bar distance requirements but on the street have sit in normal comfortable position and then bar will be further back making it more comfortable?.... I dont want a cage either but think I will need one... but wont get one if driving around town stinks..... would this work?....

Crossbar must be within 6 inches of back of your head as I recall.

Have your cage builder make the harness bar with a bent bar. The bar loops towards the back of the car instead of going straight across the main hoop.

Some pics of what I mean in this thread...

My head/helmet would be into the hoop but still would be better leg room lol

Anything is possible if the back seat is not a concern..

The main hoop can be built to either very closely follow the roof line, or lay back at an angle. It needs to be with-in 6" of your head.
