View Full Version : Ran a 10 Finally, still more in it!

Well i finally have a 10 second car. 2 excuses first 60 foot sucks i was doing 1.61's last year there is a few tenths right there. and on the 3-4 it lagged and hit the limiter since i couldn't get it into 4th gear during the burnout(lame 6L80E shit) I'm thinking it can do 10.6-10.7's at 128-129 with some more time.Also Track is FRESH they just redid the WHOLE track and this was only the 2nd night of running on the new surface.

congrats! i tried that 1,2,3,4 shift in the burnout box. not that easy to do. and it rattled the rear end. that is the night the diff. broke. i am sure it was on it's way out before that. but the shifting in the burnout box did not help. i agree. 3-4 is nasty in this transmission. a 10.75 or 10.80 is in your reach.

i think with a good 60 it can do 10.6-10.7 @128+

keep on going. it is what you enjoy! i like it alot also. the guys at the coffee shop tell me it is a mid life crisis. i say no. i have always liked it and it has nothing to do with age.

Yea MPH seems well for a shitty 60 foot and banging the limiter on the 3-4


Just looked at the log, it came out of the hole and for some reason maybe my foot it was 67% TPs until 7MPH. the 3-4 dipped to 59% when it banged the limiter as well.

do you have a six point in it or are they laxed at your track. at our track if you do a 11.49 they announce to everyone who is present on the loud speaker that he is going home.

1st gear saw a peak of 9.72psi
2nd was 10.15
3rd was 10.88 on the limiter

The 3-4 thing pisses me off so much

has to see a 3-4 part throttle its a safety thing in the fucking trans. I proved it many times over and over if i get in the car and just go wot it will hang the 3-4 and hit the limiter. Now if i do a part throttle 3-4 or get it to see 4th gear during the burnout it shifts perfect

2 times when I couldnt get into 4th in the burnout box, I didnt get the 'hang' from 3-4 - which is strange...

Yea mine never hangs on the street and last year at KCIR i didn't hang when i got it into 4th in the burnout box.

Now last night and at cordova when it didn't see 4th it hung.

Congrats that was a long time in coming. Mine never hangs on the 3-4 it only screws up on the 1-2.

Yea my 1-2 was nice the last pass shifted right at 6630.

Do you do the burnout in Auto, Sport or Manual mode?

Well last year i did them in manual mode. I tried both sport and manual last night but didn't have luck the last pass. All the other passes i was just doing 1st gear burnouts. Video will be up soon.

I use/used Auto in Roys and my car.. I've tried M in the past on my car and saw some issues so I stopped using it

I did mine in manual, 1st gear to get em smokin and then into second really smokin and then out of the water lettin off so it doesn't hit the drive train to hard and then straight to the line.

Trans works just fine at all other times. i just got back in town at 3am after beating on the car all weekend in TX at Tx2k12 never had a issue down there. It's just when i turn the car off and turn it back on and do a wot pass without seeing 3-4 Part throttle. I actually out earlier that day testing some changes i did with the meth and did 5 3-4 shifts and shifted PERFECT each time.

Well made it back Saturday for some more testing.

3-4 Shift worked perfect all i just did a long 2nd gear burnout and blipped the shifter in 4th as i was rolling forward.

Fought traction and tried a few different things i did leave soft again with a 1.69 60' and did a slightly better 10.95.

I'm still not 100% happy with the results. When it hooks it seems to get traction then the tires will slip about 10 feet out or so then hook again. Just going to take some more time i guess and Trial and error. I know i have the MPH for some 10.7's or so but just need to get the 60 foot down.

will try that a month from now. second gear burnout and just blip it into 4th. and then after it chugs it should shift right back into first? next run will be with heads and hefty cam.

What is the purpose of going into 4th during burnout.... 4-5 gear is hardest on the trans due to the design.... I would take it easy on 4-5 if I had the 6L80 still.... we see more issues in those gears than the lower gears... .

when the car shifts into fourth at the track it holds it for a good 2-3 tenths. some sort of safety factor. if you blip it into fourth during the burnout it does not have that problem. some sort of safety feature built into it that hp tuners cannot get around.

i saw some old posts from 2011 where devilish and a couple of others did the burnouts in drive and it naturally spun to 4th at over 100 mph. that may be worth a try also.

Shane- do you always do your burnouts in the water box? I figure you gotta be splashing a little water into the wheel well which drips as you pull up to stage. I always just do a quick little rolling blip in the water box to get them wet and then roast the MT's through the gears about 5-10 feet away from the water. I'm not near your power levels yet but I dead hook every time and cut 1.6X 60' fts. The staff at SAR even stops you if you try to do the burnout in the box. Plus if you do the burnout in the box then as you drive forward after your burnout you are still driving through water.
