So I got the standard CEL for what I thought was the gas cap issue again. So I had the code pulled and got the P0442 Evaporative Emission (EVAP) System Small Leak Detected. I have already had a new gas cap installed in the car for this issue as well as the rear canister replaced for the same code. I get the code some times after I fill up but have always made sure to tighten it atleast 3 clicks. So when I got the code again this time I took it back in to the dealership to have them look at it under warranty. I heard back from them about it and the said they repleaced the gas tank and some seals as well. This is has been the only issue with this car that I have had. Any thoughts on this issue? I have read all about the gas cap issue but it's just supprising that this is the only car that I own with this issue.

I remember a couple of gas tanks being replaced when the G8 first showed up in the states.

which cap is on it? I have heard of one bad cap being replaced with the same model. They will keep hunting and replacing as they go. See if you can find another G8 in your area to swap caps with for a short time to see if it goes away.

Once I get it back from the shop tomorrow I will try to get a pick up. But I do know that when I got the new cap it was different than what was on it the first time. But when I have been getting the code it was normally a couple of days after a fill up. But will keep the updated if I have any issues after I get it back.

My car had the tank replaced before I bought it and I always wondered why. What was the end result of your issue?

Yes that fixed the issue. They said that there was a small leak in the neck of the gas tank that was causing the code to be thrown. I had already had the canister replaced a year before that for the same issue. But now that I have a new tank its been code free since then.
