I was thinking the same, or at least an easy to order kit option like this.

Still working on the cooler kit (Charlie)
Once he finishes up the install and and instructions then I will get it up also. Yes I can put an option to add the deep pan kit to the cooler package.

Just remember the cooler will not work with all CAI kits. You may have to modify your air box if you don't have one that is designed to fit with an auto GXP.

Greg, you have the same wood floors I do! lol
It was easier to snag your pic since you had it laid out so nice :)

Just ordered one. Seems like a great price to me. Hopefully they're in stock or will be in the next week or so.. Going to be doing this pan plus a Tru-cool 4588 14,400 BTU LPD transmission cooler. Can I mix Amsoil ATL with the factory fluid? I won't be flushing it, so obviously some of the factory fluid is going to remain. ATL is Dex VI compatible according to Amsoil. Or should I use Valvoline or Castrol instead? And how much fluid should I order for those two things?

Greg@PacePerformance
06-01-2012, 10:00 AM
Yes got them in stock. Your order should go out today or Monday
Thanks

Amsoil should be fine.
I would say you would need about 7-8 quarts for the filter/pan swap and adding a cooler.

Received mine in 1 day.
I did mine with trans out of car, and TC off. I'm going to buy 10 qts.
I need to double check the pan bolt torque, and the cooler pipe to trans bolt torque.
80 inch lbs is G8 torque, couldn't find the cooler pipe torque.

LDM
07-08-2012, 08:25 AM
The G8 service manual says the cooler pipe to trans bolt is 18 lb-ft.

-Ray-

Thanks Len.
I snugged down the bolt and have the cooler pipes capped off. I got 8 qts. of Valvoline Dex VI in the trans. Bought a transfer pump to finish filling the trans when the engine runs.

I'm just curious, for those of you that have already done this, did you replace the filter seal that comes with the filter kit or just pop the old filter out and the new one in?

jscruick
07-11-2012, 01:43 PM
I replaced the filter seal, its included in the kit, used a painter's 5 in one scraper tool to remove. Could use any small tool with a hook though.

todds87ss
07-12-2012, 05:21 AM
never had to change one out in any filter change. Always assumed that they were provided for tranny rebuilds. And no, I did not for this one either.

Thanks for the replies. I was just trying to figure out the general consensus on this. It comes with the seal and I have the seal driver, so it shouldn't be too hard to replace, but at the same time there's the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" motto and I wasn't sure if it was really needed unless damaged somehow during the filter removal.

Why for an extra .7qt?

ULTRA Z
07-08-2013, 02:37 AM
Why for an extra .7qt?

Believe it or not that little bit extra helps a lot with keeping the trans temps down and cooler temps equals longer lasting trans. So Its def worth the money and time for this mod.

todds87ss
07-08-2013, 03:39 AM
Why for an extra .7qt?

it's not only the extra volume ...the filter mouth is wider allowing more flow. The larger filter only fits with the camaro pan.

It isn't a Camaro filter. The Camaro uses a standard mouth filter like the G8 ;)
This is a filter from a CTS or trucks :)

Greg,

Which transmission fluid is better to use for a mostly stock G8 GXP? I heard a lot of good things about Royal Purple, and what this the correct product for our cars?
I will be ordering a pan kit once I can figure out which fluid to order.

thank you!

Looking at possibly doing this mod. I have Kooks mids and at the bottom of the cats to the bottom of the trans pan I have 1.125" clearance. At the attach flanges just AFT of the cats, I have 1.375" of clearance to the bottom of the trans pan.

Looks like the stock pan is 2.625" tall at the front. Do you know how much deeper the Camaro pan is?
