It's A G8!

I got my NEP OTR intake today!:woohoo: I'm going to install this tomorrow. I am planning to go to the track on Friday to see what my car runs. It will be a chilly night so I know I will get some good times.

Once you do the tune you will pick up quite a bit from the shift points and tuning for the OTR and Intake/TB.

I got to see one last night on UGotSmkds White G8. Very nice piece. It was nice to meet Steve as well.

? I dont think anyone but NE and VMS have had it on a dyno.

I meant did he get it dyno'd before the intake and is he going to get it dyno'd after the intake to see the difference. It's early and I'm still on my first cup of coffee.

If you were talking about me, no I didn't have a before (stock) dyno. I am considering getting one now with the OTR and use that to go from. The VMS tune with the OTR put out some really good numbers.

No trans tune, shifting at 5800 and poorly, a 13.50 would be good on a cold track. You still gotta get it to hook on a cold track.

Have any of you guys that have installed the NEP, removed the plugs on the hood scoops? I'm most likely getting Vararam, but I am curious as to whether or not water will get on the NEP unit via the open scoops.

I would say it would because I opened up my scoops one night and it rained hard so I pulled into a gas station and poped the hood and there was water all over the intake(it was stock so no water got in) If you live in a dry climate then go for it cause im sure you would get slightly cooler air and make sure you hold on to the scoop inserts incase it rains you can pull over and put them back in.

I have a NEP OTR and I have the plugs removed from the scoops. The scoops are no where near the OTR so there is no way water is getting into the intake. Very little water gets in anyway.

Usually the water gets under the hood when you open it, not driving down the road. The hood is pieces that have a gap that collects water and as soon as the hood tilts the water runs out the scoops.

Yeah they hold a good amount of water.

The OTR actually sits in front of where the scoops are.

Is/Was that a question?
Think the radiator leans back with both the Vararam and NEP system. Both sit on top, but the Vararam has added ducts that flow air from the grill. Should be only a couple HP difference between them.
At least that's what I think.....we haven't seen the Vararam fully:bm:

I realize this. It's just with the scoop plug removal pictures, I remember seeing water all over the place, even in front of the scoops.

Oh, I thought you meant that the water would be sucked into the intake through the plug removal.

Hey man it was nice meeting you. I really like how that orange looks.
Well my first run I screwed it up bad. When I left the line my hand was on the shifter and switched to manual mode.I had to fight with that and got a
14.7:puke:
Second run I did a little better and got a 14.1 @102mph my 60 was 2.267. I think for being my very first time I did ok. Once I get more practice I will get better.
What did you run?

Put it in sport mode and leave it while getting the feel of the car. Get the tune ASAP and it will drop ETs just with the trans tune.
It's A G8!

I left it in sports mode and then when I was in third gear I shifted to manual so it wouldn't shift to 4th. Charlie what else can you tell me by looking at my times.
R/T------.665
60'-------2.267
330------6.121
1/8-------9.242
MPH----- 79.82
1000'---- 11.898
1/4----- 14.106
MPH ---- 102.31

You spun pretty bad on launch(2.267 OK is 2.1 which would be .3 faster)
Once the shift oints are changed to 6200 you will see the other #s drop not to mention when its tuned the gain from just that. I would say if you can hit a 2.1 or better 60fter with the tcm/ecm tune you should be in the low 13s. Right now I could probably get atleast a 13.8 out of it just from having so much driving experience with a G8.

How do you put the transmission in to manual without changing the gear from 3rd to 4th? Every time I try to switch it to manual the gear changes. This would be good to know for the track :)

When you hit 80 in sport mode 3, tap the shifter and it switches it to M3.

And shortly after that your convertor will lock up if you are in manual mode in 3rd gear on the stock trans tune.

I left after my 1st run. I blew the tires off hard and ran a 15.0 @ 105 or something. I dont know what it was, the car hasnt even spun that hard on the street before. oh well....

The converter locks under WOT in M3? I've heard that done with aftermarket programming but not stock because of the stress it adds. Good for time and mph, but bad for trans longevity.
Mike@NewEra

It is in the stock trans tune, this is true. The stock convertor has a twin disc lock up clutch which is very strong. I am running the single disc precision convertor and I had to retune my trans not to lock up in 3rd gear at the track when in Manual mode, no BS. The trans tuning on these cars is very detailed and custom per your set up. I didn't notice it until I did the convertor, then I let one of my colleagues race it down the track to get ready for Memphis, and I heard it sound like it was adding a shift in 3rd gear, sure enough, I found where this occurs in the stock trans tune and fixed it, low and behold, what sounded like another shift (the convertor was locking up) was gone.
If you just leave it in sport, or drive, it will not do this, but once you switch to manual mode it will lock up in M3.

Thanks for the explanation. I think thats the main reason why cars that hold M3 through the traps run quicker. Do you think the stock clutches can hold the CAI and tune power levels?
Mike@NewEra
02-05-2009, 01:25 PM
Yes, I believe they can hold the power.
