It looks pretty sharp. Do you have to drill holes to mount the splitter.

Jeff@Bohnman's Electronics
02-15-2012, 05:50 PM
Yes you need to drill 3 holes in each end of the underside of the bumper very easy and not noticable

That's what we tell people all the time it's much cheaper to replace a splitter than your whole bumper because of hitting it with something.

Wouldn't you be more concerned with scraping it on the trailer?

+1 on that

Now you have to send the ten of us pdf instruction's.

I will send them out today. Off to the garage again today to finish wrapping them. We have 8 finished wrapped. Yesterday was a busy day. CLutch install on a GTO splitter install on another GTO. And wrapping Splitters.

It's not needed but I would assume it would be easier to get the nuts and washers on.

A 7/16 ratcheting wrench will be your friend for installing on the car. It not bad for us to install them now because we've done a few but the 1st couple were fun

02-19-2012, 11:56 AM
I'll chime in on the driveway issue. That's the number one reason I bought this, aesthetics were 2nd. I have a very steep/sharp approach between the street and sidewalk. I had already shredded the little rubber insert, matter of fact I believe I damaged it the first time out of my drive 3 years ago. I have had my splitter on since late summer, right before G.O.N.E.. So far, no problems, scrape it occasionally, it's still in fine shape.
Top shelf product Jeff has here! IMHO

Were there every any instructions posted on how to install this? It looks simple enough to figure out, however, I would rather know the step-by-step than get 90% done and wish I had done something differently.

I'm not even asking for pictures, just a text based walk thru would suit me fine.

The spacers were Ieft long on purpose alot of the G8's crack there front bumper cover and the additional spacer length helps them keep the bumper together if your bumper is not split you will need to take about 1/8" off I just use a grinder or hand file when installing them on the car.

Got mine installed today. I pulled the fascia since I only had 2 clamps and wanted to make it easier. Better instructions would help. Would also help if all the hole were drilled. My center two holes were not there at all. Also my two predrilled large holes were not exactly in the correct place. I could get one centered the there other wasn't even close, so I just split the difference and trimmed some material so I could get the 7mm bolt back into place.

Other than that it is on and looks pretty good.

The center holes were not drilled because some people wanted to adjust the amount sticking out. I have to update the instructions. Anybody have some installed pics yet?

I was thinking about taking the facia today, but didn't get around it. At least I know why the stand offs are so long. That wasn't in the instructions either.

OK that explains the center holes. :)
I ended up cutting just one spacer in 1/2 and using it that way. With the GXP fascia I wanted the splitter tight to the lower rubber lip. It does have a slight bow to it, but you can't see it when it is installed on the car.

Oh and remember to cut the long bolts before you install the fascia so you don't have to pull it back off. :)
I'll try and get a good daytime picture tomorrow. It is still on stands in the Garage.

So how long does everyone think they are going to last before the splitter meets a parking curb? I haven't installed mine yet but my wife had to drive my car today and she parked it perfectly.....except that if the splitter had been on, it would have definitely hit the curb the front bumper barely cleared. I give mine 3 months HAHA.

On a separate note, I'm thinking about wrapping the top horizontal surface in 3M Di-Noc carbon fiber to match my MM CF hood.

Anyone moving theirs in a bit? I've been looking at mine for a few days in the "stock" position, and then moved inward in different increments.
Haven't installed yet, still trying to make up what's left of my mind.

Slotted the attach points so I could adjust as needed. Once done, trimmed the excess that was in the wheel opening.

Finished the install yesterday morning. I did move it back 1/4 in just for personal preference.
Several things I found helpful:
From outside back edge to outside back edge is 66 inches. Use a tape, a builder's square, and some blue painter's tape and get your center line to match the nose of your bumper cover.
Put blue painter's tape on the splitter below where the spacers go. When you fit the spacers into the number cover, you can mark around the base of the spacer to get your two center holes.
Things I did different:
Followed the advice of another member and replaced the carriage bolts with phillps head machine screws (I went stainless).
Replaced the nuts and lock washers with nylock nuts, bought extra flat washers.
Replaced the two metal clips removed with 1/4x20 clips so the two innermost (or center) screws anchor to the original spots.
Drilled my 3 side holes all the way through the bumper cover and the black plastic tray to anchor the splitter to the tray
itself with flat washers and nylocks on top. You have to remove the lower fog light grills to do this. The very back hole on each side is better off with a 3/4 in screw.

I have my bumper off and sitting on the splitter. I can't get this to line up even. I have to force into position.

When I did that I put the center of the fascia on the center of the splitter. Then the ends of the splitter I made even with the fascia. I clamped it into place then driled the holes.
The large holes didn't line up where they should have so I had to trim them so I could put the 7mm screws back into place.

I lined it ok I think. I have the 6 holes drilled and bolted. I'm ok with that.
I'm pondering how I'm going to do the two spacers and get the bolts on.

The easiest way would be just line up the drill from the bottom of the bumper and drill through "eye ball" if you don't fell comfortable with that. Then I would say get some white out or other paint put some on the spacer in the hole mark the top of the splitter with the wet paint take it off and drill your holes. Again depending on if your bumper is cracked you may have to trim the spacers an 1/8"

I have the holes drilled. I used a drill that fit the current hole and drilled from inside at a slight angle. Then I drilled a .265" hole from the bottom through the splitter. I didn't like the look with the spacers. Investigating an alternative method of fastening the two center bolts.

Updated using a real computer.

Ok, waiting for it to warm up a little. My plan is to push the long bolt up from the bottom, place a washer on it with a nut. Then add another nut and then a washer for the underneath portion of the gap. that way I can maintain the uniformity of the gap. Then put a washer on the top of the bumper with a nylock nut. This is using no spacer.

I need to enlarge the two clearance holes first. Then install the bumper and finish drilling through the black plastic panel under the front end. I'll get pics of that also.
Then cut off the excess threads.

Bear with me folks, I'm not good at loading pics, but I did install it with the car sitting on the ground, no jacks, no hoist and it came out perfect.

I installed mine today. I left the bumper on and just jacked the car up. I need to get longer screws to go in the stock location because now the stock screws are too short. I took about 1/4" off of the spacers.
