Important Notes:

These headers are designed to be connected to the factory/aftermarket exhaust of any 2008-2009 Pontiac G8 GT using connection pipes PT# 82-1168.
The headers will also bolt to a G8 GXP, however Pacesetter does not make connection pipes, so custom tubing would be required to make them connect to a factory or aftermarket catback.
There are currently no production mid pipes with catalytic converters. This system deletes your cats and is for off road use only.
Pacesetter does not include O2 extensions. They do include wire and wire connectors for you to splice your factory wires. For those not willing to cut their factory wiring, we offer the ability to purchase O2 extensions at additional cost. G8's require 2 O2 extension harnasses normally.

PaceSetter now offers these value priced long tube headers for your G8 GT. These painted headers are an affordable substitution for other stainless headers that are available.

1-3/4" Primary Tubes with 3" Collectors.
CNC-machined 3/8"-thick steel flanges.
Flash-controlled 16-gauge carbon steel primaries provide greater durability than light gauge stainless steel.
Length and diameter of mandrel-bent tubing is optimized for flow and best performance increase.
Tubes enter collector in proper sequence for maximum scavenging.
O2 sensor fittings on all applications.
Complete with necessary gaskets and fasteners for installation. Some fabrication may be required.
Made in USA!
Affordably priced.
Off road use only.
Black Painted Finish.

These headers are great. I have them and the connection pipes that I got from Maryland speed. I cleared the code with my tune. Zero issues

make up your mind...

btw they do make connection pipes but not with cats. offroad only. ;)

Not my mind to make up. Just cut it and pasted it from the website. :) I do not use or install them either.

I can get them at a good price but I will tell you there are better headers out there for the G8.
After using a quality stainless header and using an expensive coated steel header on our race only Grand Prix. I can tell you there isn't a reason to buy a non stainless header for a DD unless it is really out of the budget.
We spent over $900 on coated headers for the Grand Prix just to watch them pit and rust. Sucks.

Greg,

What do you think is the next best step for the budget minded? (including mid pipes)

Probably Kooks mids. I don't think the Doug Thorleys are SS are they? If they are that's a middle option between the PaceSetter and Kooks. Only Kooks are catted though.

Pacesetters are a great budget header. They installed very easily and have held up for months now and still look brand new.

As stated above the DT's are a good header if they are stainless and I know the Kooks are.

Pace Setter
70-2259 - $275.00
72C2259 -$425.00
82-1168 - $62.57
We don't stock them so they would need to be special ordered from Pace Setter

I bought the Pacesetters and ceramic coated them myself. Granted I have a bead blast cabinet and spray booth at my disposal, but I think I got $325 in mine and they still look like the day I sprayed them. I also don't drive mine in the winter which swayed my decision to coat them myself. If you plan on running them all year long and live around any salt, spend the extra on SS if it is even close to your budget.

thanks for the replies. im gonna go with the kooks 1 7/8 long tubes and catted connector pipes.

Just to add. I installed my pace setter coated headers today. It wasn't too bad, but there were issues.

#1 the dipstick. I have an early 2009 GT and I've read that there were no issues with people installing headers. Perhaps the Kooks headers have an extra bend to allow the dipstick to fit in? Any way, I think a 2009.5 dipstick tube would be better since it fits inbetween the primaries.

#2 the passenger side midpipe connector seems to be about 1/2" forward compared to the driver side. this made fitting the passenger side header a real pain in the nuts. I left plenty of slack on the headers before i connected the headers to the midpipes but there are issues with at least one bolt - the rearmost headr bolt either got cross threaded (didnt feel that way going in!) or because of the angle of the headers, the bolt will not go in fully without exceeding the torque spec... so I'll have to revisit that one later.

#3 on the driver side, and you'll have to forgive me because I do not remember the cylinder numbering for this motor..the 2nd spark plug boot from the front is lightly touching the primary. the others have about 1mm clearance.

#4 Pace setter provided some band clamps to fit their midpipe connectors however, they require more clearance than what is available in order to be installed - they're just too long. this could be due to the fact that when my dynomax x-pipe muffler was installed, the shop managed to add about 1/4 to 1/2" length and now I'm at the limits of the hangers ability to stretch... who knows.

-- Edit: I used the nuts/bolts from the band clamps to fasten the midpipe connectors. It would have been nice if they at least included 4 bolts since on the stock downpipes the bolts are welded in place

I bought c clamps but have not installed them. I am considering just taking it in to have the midpipe adapters welded.. or see if the muffler shop can come up with a better solution.

I though it would take about 3 hours, took about 5. the passenger side manifold bolts are a real pain in the ass!

I am going to wait for the motor to cool down and re torque the manifold bolts. I pray that the one passenger side bolt is not cross threaded otherwise I will probably have to retap the dang thing.

All I need now is a tune :) seems Torq can help me out with my SCT X3 so perhaps I wont need to sell it after all.

Oh and thanks Maryland Speed. Bought these the day before thanksgiving and I got everything by tuesday!

You most likely wont be able to retap it and keep the proper percentage of thread. Heli coil is your best bet in aluminum.
