I have had the 275 40 17 and am running a very large 315 35 17 now.
A 245 45 17 is alot lighter, slightly taller, and with a good burnout would it be able to handle a 400 rwhp car with a 3600 stall?
Bigger is not always better and I was hoping to maybe have some feedback on a smaller lighter drag radial.

You will need the 275/40. That is a good size with a proper launch technique for 4-500hp.

thanks Charlie for stopping me from making a mistake. the 315s are just a little too big.

You will need the 315s one day I have this feeling. :)

lol yeah, i have the fighting spirit in me. the wife does not appreciate this. strange thing today with the yank. you have to stall it. it was a learning experience. not my best time. but my best corrected time and top end. 5000 foot da. bogged with the 315s. i thought something was wrong with the tune or stall. then i said what the hay and stalled her to 2500. all was good then. corrected to an 11.63 at 120. i know it would not do that. but it is a consistent tool i use to see where i am since the tucson track has das from 4-7K

What was your 60ft time when you left at 2500? Did it spin?
Anytime you swap a converter you have to find the sweet spot. Some it changes t flash really easy and some you have to foot brake it a bit more. Now TQ/HP do have an effect on how a converter reacts. Put your converter in say my car and it would probably flash a little easier. As power and TQ go up, it changes how the converter reacts.

the fti flashed alot easier at idle. the yank would not. leaving at 2500 it did not spin. but then 30 feet out i felt it slip a little and grab again. from the mid range up the yank seemed way tighter and extremely efficient. with the 315s it still was a slow 60 foot. 1.809. My best sixty foot at this track with this cam has been 1.77. but that was with the 275s and the ftis.
now at firebird my 60 foot can be around a 1.70 with this cam and the 275s. you are going down in elevation and the car makes more power. when i ran the 12.03 at speedworld which is actually at 1400 feet vs. 1200 ft. at firebird i got a 1.69 with the 275s and the fti.
i think the 315s are slowing it down a bit. definitely the yank needs to be stalled. and it is extremely efficient making alot of top end power.
my best sixty foot ever was 1.61 at pinks all out at firebird. but that was with the stock cam and alex letting me borrow his front runners. the stock cam made power right at idle and above.

There is no other Drag Radial out there that hooks as good as the Hoosiers... Very light very sticky

yeah, it stuck at idle. it better. that 315 is fat and heavy.
76 degrees, 12 percent humidity, 29.86 relative pressure. static elevation 3075. da 4978
me new mustang
1.804 2.291
5.191 5.974
7.995 8.897
86.95 84.30
10.395 11.401
12.401 13.494
112.82 108.25
corrected to an 11.643 @ 120
my best before corrected time at speedworld where i ran a 12.03 was 11.67 at 116.
Top end way stronger with this converter. But I am learning to launch it. It loves to be foot braked where with the fti it made no difference whether i left at idle or foot braked. i had the 315s sitting in the garage for a year. i realized a year ago i made a mistake when it went slower with them on a year ago. i bought the hoosiers 275s and all was well again. they wore out. i did not want to spend the extra money now so i got rid of the spiders and put them on again.

I don't about that. We just went 1.44 in a 2000 SS Camaro with MT 15in drag radials.

I was doing a google just to see if there was a true 17 inch slick in a 275 or so width. Nothing. Hoosier makes a 28 inch one. And all the other companies make 15 and 16 inch slicks.

Hoosier is the only true slick I know about, but a 28 in tall tire will kill your effective gear ratio. I would get the Hoosier 275/40/17. Hell it is a slick except for 2 grooves! lol

it is. that is what i have always used. the 315 is a hoosier also. just too big and the side walls protrude from the 9.5 inch rim. signing off for the night.

15" vs 17" big difference. Stick or Auto? . I'm thinking about switch to a Mickey or Nitto bc the Hoosiers hook to good and I get some bog

True. The weird thing is is this car had 28 x 12.50 x 15 ET Streets and only went 1.51s. With 275/50/15s it leaves so hard the wheel has spun about 3 inches in the tire. This is only a 11.20 car on motor too. 4000 stall/4.10s.
I do agree on the weight though! My tires are 33lbs each, but I just don't know about going smaller since it hazes the tires so easy. I know Roy's car has a smaller tire then you ran and it still leaves damn good.......with you driving! :)
I guess I will know soon enough if I will be swapping to something smaller just to see. If it doesn't 60ft in the 1.60s easily (ran 1.72 I think last time with a lot of other issues) and can't click off better then a 11.50 in the 1st few passes, I will try tires 1st and then put my stock springs and struts back on.

It's getting a nice wrinkle in the rears, they're working good.
There's not a lot of weight on that driver's side front tire... ;)
