View Full Version : G8 GXP Rear Knuckle Bushing

Can anyone tell me exactly where the hell I can find what I've pictured below? It is apparently the one bushing that does not cross over between the GT and GXP model in the rear suspension and of course I need it for my GXP as the shop pressed it out inadvertently.

The best description I have at the moment is that it is a sleeved bushing that slots into the rear knuckle that then sits inside the outer portion of the lower control arm. It is part 13 in the diagram below and GMs part # is for V6/GT only.

Without this one part my car has been sitting dead in a shop for over a week now. If anyone has a GXP rear knuckle for sale or knows how I can get that one bushing in the picture below I'd appreciate it.

Left is the GM Part from the database and right is what actually came out of the GXP.

This sounds like a question for Greg @ Pace...

Send him a PM.

I've asked him :-( He doesn't see that there is a different part for that location.

The 2010 Camaro rear knuckle is, I believe, identical to that on the GXP except that it's aluminum. It, too, uses a bearing in that pivot point. So it'd also be worth searching Camaro parts databases.

I asked Pete @ Pedders if the equivalent Camaro part would be appropriate in that spot, but he said its a no go.

Ask Greg to try 92225044 against your VIN.

Do you have or tried the BMR/Pedders bushing for it? The one on the left is what all G8s have so the GXP obviously uses a stiffer bushing with a sleeve.

BMR doesn't make a sleeved bush for this spot and neither does Pedders. I've spoken to both Kyle from BMR and Pete from Pedders. I am definitely interested in this part #92225044 . This part is called a "joint" not a bush and shows up with little description for the Chevrolet Caprice PPV. If only I could get a picture of the part before ordering, as I've already ordered bushings for this spot twice and both were wrong :-(.

Is the center of the bushing more like a spherical joint?

Based on all the work I've done with my suspension, I would answer that question as a yes. You can put the shaft of a screwdriver through one and pivot it all around, almost like a sticky (thickly greased) heim joint.

Correct. Similar to the one in our upper spindle.

Yup.

Also, as a note in BMR's defense, their installation instructions for the spindle bushing do not include a note that the product is GT-only, but the product page itself does.

From the product page (http://www.bmrsuspension.com/index.cfm?page=products&productid=488):

The GXP and 2010 Camaro had factory upgraded bearings for this location as it is a high-load point in the suspension. The standard G8 and G8 GT's got a rubber bushing. Upgrade your G8's OE rubber bushings to BMR's high durometer polyurethane bushings for decreased bushing deflection.

Correct again! I am doing a full BMR install at the shop right now, but it is a GT.

The fault is certainly not BMR's, but if only the instructions had read to leave it be if it was a GXP lol I wouldn't be nearing a grand in the hole :-(

So I guess I'll just have to have part #92225044 run past my Vin and see if it matches?

Your shop's not covering any of this for failing to differentiate between a joint and a bushing on-site?

They are saying that they are giving me a break on the hours they've spent researching and trying to find the appropriate part and that the BMR instructions led to the improper removal of the part. I guess they are giving me a break, but this scenario just sucks all the way around for everyone.

I really don't give a damn at this point, I just NEED the right part.

I've ordered part #92225044 as a last ditch effort. My vehicles Vin apparently comes back as a base G8 model when the dealer enters it, which is BS. Going to wait and see if this part works, if it doesn't, I'm having my car towed to the nearest GM dealership and having them sort it out.

In the wake of Pontiac's closure, I've found ordering parts from my dealer to be a PAIN. Looking up the car shows "Made in Oz" and that's about it. To get parts, they have to run a separate search.

Have you sent your vin to Greg at Pace?

Have you sent your vin to Greg at Pace?

I'd contacted him a day or two ago, but I didn't have as clear an understanding of what I EXACTLY needed at that time. I've just sent him a follow-up email with my info to see if he has any thoughts.

Just got part 92225044 in and that SOB FITS! So anyone else with a GXP, part 92225044 off of the Caprice PPV is a perfect fit into our right rear knuckle. Too bad this cost me a crapton of extra money and time. Oh well, happy now.

Thanks everyone for the help.

Thanks for the update.
That is very odd the G8 catalog doesn't list that part.

Paul saves another one!
