Conti DWS gets pretty good reviews.

Consider the Conti ExtremeContact DWS (when we can get them), Michelin Pilot Sport AS+ or Goodyear Eagle GT.

I won't get the DWS again, just because my current batch have been such a pain. They handle great. They just won't balance. Problem is, I'm not sure what else out there competes at their level.

Honestly, its gonna be tough to find that perfect tire. I work for one of the biggest tire companies in the US, yes some do all the above, but you have to sacrifice at some point. A lot of us have two sets of wheels, which is the best if you live in shitty climates like you and I. I run the Kuhmo Asx on my winter wheels which are my stock 18's. I run the Sumitomo HTR 3's for my summer tires and they are on 20's. My Kuhmos do very well in snow with 200 lbs in the trunk. Although I don't have to run those anymore since I've started parking my car on bad days, but the first 3 years I owned my g8, I drove it everyday in the winter.

Sorry I can't help you because I don't drive my car in any type of bad weather. But....
What part of md do you live in?

I like my DWS. They don't handle as well as the potenzas did, but they are much better in the rain/snow.

Check tire rack survey data. The Potenza RE970AS look good although the ratings shown should settle lower as more data comes in. A recent reviewer said they were quieter and more responsive than the Michelin Pilot sport AS plus (another high rated tire). Unless you need the snow grip, the DWS give up too much cornering stability and steering response for me.

I'm very happy with the Pirelli PZero Neros - http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Pirelli&tireModel=PZero+Nero+All+Season. I have driven at Summit Point with them and I have driven in slush, but no serious snow yet. They are not as good as the OEM Potenzas on the track but they can run without apologies, especially for an all season tire.

I live in Maryland, and so far very happy with my General G-Max. Good tire, reasonable price.

Has anyone tried the goodrich TA kdw2 tires or ridden in a car with them? I cannot get over the fact of how much I like the tread pattern. Biggest complaint seems to be the noise level but a couple of the reviews said it was not as noticeable in heavy cars. Since I dont really have to worry about winter weather my biggest concern is wet traction/hydroplaning and the testing showed that to be OK.

Another data point for you - I have dunlop d3 on 17" bbs rims. Tires are OK in cold and wet, but don't live up to the tirerack user ratings for deep snow performance, iMHO.

The problem is high performance, and all season don't belong in the same sentence.

The problem is high performance, and all season don't belong in the same sentence.

I second that. You can get tires that get an 'A' when dry or wet but a 'D' in the snow and ice. You can also get tires that score an 'A' on snow, ice and rain but a 'D' when it's dry. All season tires may score a 'C' across the board or even a 'B' in one area. What you can't get is a tire that gets an 'A' in all areas.

Unless you live in western Maryland or absolutely have to drive in the two or three days of snow we get, I wouldn't trade performance. Have had summer only on my g8 for almost 3 years now. Have driven in the snow and while not fun it is doable. Just makes you learn your car a little better. Haha

I live in Wheaton MD, so its freezing but not a ton of snow like western MD . I've driven around in the snow and gotten stuck a couple times with the re50s, but I am a donkey.

I got Michelin Pilot Sport AS+ tires put on last spring. I am very happy with them. I run winter tires but we often get snow early (October) or late (May) in winter so I got the all seasons for summer use. They are great in dry conditions and are reasonably capable in snow and rain.

What happens if I put 245/35/19 tires on?

You have a lower profile tire than stock and that does nothing for you.

I like my DWS's but can't seem to get the fronts balanced perfect. My worn out Potenzas balanced perfect. :(

Michelin Pilot Sport AS+ for me - great tire, vast improvement over stock in all areas.

Yeah, the Pilot Sport AS plus are at the top of my list for replacements. The B'stone RE970AS are looking good too and probably be $200 less per set than the Michelins. The G8 stays in the garage if there is snow out but need an AS as temps here in upstate NY can be in the 40's from September through May. A bimmer guy at work crashed because he was running summer tires with temps in the 40s (said so himself).

I had these on my infiniti g35 coupe. The tread pattern does look awesome. They were a bit noisy, but since the coupe had tire cupping issues anyway they didn't seem much louder than the pilot sports they replaced. Of course, you couldn't fully rotate the tires on the g35 since they were staggered sizes, so that tire may not be as bad on the g8. For the price I thought they were a good set of tires.

I had Michelin Pilot Sport A/S on my old car. Amazing wet traction, OK snow traction, great dry traction. Also great treadwear. They were expensive as all hell, but they performed up to the price that I paid for them at the time.

Yeah, keeping my eye on the B-stone RE970AS too. But expect those TR rating numbers to come down as more data comes in. Usually levels off as the reported miles hit around 750,000.
