Coming from Baltimore to Frederick on I-70 at 7:15 tonight in 3 lanes of traffic doing about 70 or so with cars on all for sides of me.

The SUV right in front of me (a few car lengths) suddenly tries to swerve to the right and 2, yes 2, Christmas trees come shooting out from under him and are right in the center of my lane with their cut trunk ends facing me. I had a fraction of time to react as there was a small gap to my right but I was overtaking a car in that lane.

I threw the wheel as fast as I could to the right to try to miss the trees. The G8 responded instantainiously. It was freaky fast as I darted right and was able the miss one tree and just catch the other with the left side of the bumper instead of hitting both dead center.

I no sooner hit the tree that I had to swerve left to not hit the car ahead who's lane I was half in. He saw the SUV hit the trees and was brakling so I was running out of lane REAL fast. I snatched the wheel left and was back in my lane in a blink.

It wasn't until after that I realized how freaky fast, stable and controlled the G8 had just done the fastest (speed) and quickest (time) evasive maneuver I've ever done and it made it feel like a drive in the park.

I believe that without my Track II the car would not have responded fast enough to miss one and almost miss the other tree or pulled this maneuver off without the slightest hint of losing control. I am truely amazed. This was on my Dunlop M3 M+S tires!!

I really think with the stock suspension and the extremely short time to react, I would hit both trees and lost control in the process.

If any Pedders haters want to jump in, kiss my ass and you can quote me on that.

I don't know about Pedders... but I do know you've got at least one uni-directional tire on backwards.

Actually, it happened so fast and so controlled, it didn't get to me much until after the excitement ended. I said much. Holden leather tastes slightl salty!

Thanks. When I got home I pulled out the floor jack and pulled the front wheels off to get a good look for hidden damage (there was none) but when I put them back on I must have swapped them. I was thinking about the bumper than the tires i guess.

Sorry to hear. I'd be too tempted to change out the front end for a GTS.

A little good news, because the tree was actually airborne from the SUV kicking it up at the time it hit me, it is a comprehensive claim and zero deductable.

Hmmm, GXP front end sounds interesting. I will have to look into that. Thanks.

With a dark color, the GXP front end makes little difference. The main change is a body color portion between the foglights and lower honeycomb. Subtle and nearly indistiguishable to the casual observer with a black car. If they make you pay a price difference more than a few dozen dollars, it's not worth it, IMO.

That is great it won't be any $$$ out of pocket for you. Too bad it had to happen and now you have to wait to get a new bumper, but at least nothing more major happened to you, your car and those others on the road.

That sucks Ed, good to see it is not going to cost you anything and that more was not damaged.

Just got a call that my bumper and fender liner are in and they will do the replacement on Monday. I was afraid it might take a long time to get parts but they ordered them only 4 days ago.
