Got 8?

Our TBSS just took a shit on my wife today while she was waiting in line to pick up my daughter from school. Said she cranked up at home and got a CEL then when she got to her school she turned it off and then tried to restart it and nothing...just gauges and a chime but nothing starting. They had to push it out of line to a parking space.

I got home later and it wouldn't do anything. I left the key on and it started to ding at me a few times about once every two minutes then it started in limp mode (Reduced engine power) but I couldn't accelerate hardly by pushing on the pedal. Then started a couple more times in limp mode and out of sheer luck on about the fifth time it started and idled and ran perfect so I drove it home and backed it into the driveway, revved it a couple of times watching the temp for a few minutes and it ran fine. Shut it off and tried to restart and nothing again. Can't even take it out of park by stepping on the brake...nothing. Then I wait a few minutes go back out to try it and it starts twice and runs perfectly...WTF!!!:bm:

Any ideas ???

Check battery cables and make sure they are clean and tight. 1 sympton sounds like a issue with the drive-by-wire system, which is usually a bad throttle body, but your other issues sold like,bad/weak battery(wont shift out of park/not enough voltage to actuate shift lock solenoid) or a bad alternator that has run the battery down. What year is it and how many miles?

There is a HUGE ignition switch problem with those, its a known issue and does exactly what you are stating..

Ok I was thinking ignition at first cause my scanner (an old Predator handheld for 99-2000) was telling me that the ignition wasn't on when trying to pull the codes but I tried on the G8 and it said the same thing so I think it's not compatable w/ the new ECM's...

My brother is bringing me his generic Autozone/Wal-Mart scanner to scan it...

So ignition switch huh??? How hard is that to do???

Charlie, any chance for a goodwill warranty? Not sure if dealerships are still doing them with the state of GM.

Thanks but I already got it cause she needs it by Mon.

Oh and even though I gave the guy the VIN he still got the part wrong. He quoted me the price for the headlight switch assembly. The right part hopefully was $62 w/ tax. Yeah I know I still got raped but at least it wasn't for 150...
