From what over heard, the L76 cars already have better oil pumps due to the DOD. I know LS3 Camaro guys have had issues with their stock pumps, even with not much more than stock power, so I figured it's cheap insurance.

Little update....

Still waiting on my headers from Marylandspeed.

Ordered 2 TPMS sensors.

Weldcraft called me yesterday and said they got my wheels shipped out. Ended up being $551 for 2 wheels, 1.5" widening on each, and return shipping.

Ordered my tires last night. Went with Hankook Ventus K110's, size 295/30/19.

Yup, I'm real happy with the quality.

Only minor gripes is I wish communication would have been a little better. I was told the turn-around was 30 days, but an email confirmation saying they received the wheels, or a few status updates saying they were starting the work on them, etc would have made me more at ease. I ended up emailing them at about 28 days just asking for a general status update, and they told me they were being worked on then, and would be calling me in a day or 2 for return shipment/payment info.

But I would still highly reccomend their work.

Can't wait to see pictures of those wheels on the car. 1.5" should keep you safe, right? This is something I'd like to do someday. I already purchased one wheel from a dealer for $200 (it had an inch of dust on it and he just wanted to get rid of it). I'll hopefully pick up another on the cheap down the road.

Also, are you concerned about the clutch? I'm considering the "cheating" route and using a TVS2300. That should put me around 500rwhp with my existing mids, CAI, and tune but I was told to think about a clutch at that number and above. (I'm currently at ~400 give or take with no issues.)

TyG8GXP
01-19-2012, 10:06 AM
What do you mean by keep me safe? Like be wide enough to run the 295's? Should be good.

As far as my clutch, I'm slightly worried about it, I won't be doing too many visits to the track, so for highway punches, random WOT pulls, it should be ok. If it goes, it goes, the car isn't my DD or anything, do I'll just upgrade to a better one. I'm sure some people are saying, "Why not do a clutch while the car is apart?". I kind of ask myself the same thing. Small reason is funds, I could afford to do it, but I'll see how it goes on the stock one, and go from there.

If all goes well, I'll have the tires mounted this afternoon, and I'll get pictures.

I'm with you 100%. Funds are my reason for considering skipping the clutch in the immediate future. It was recommended that I consider a McLeod RXT twin disc. Sounds great but $$$. :-) I too will see little to no time at the track. The car is in an airplane hanger during the winter months and only driven on occasion in the summer. (~2500mi per year or so)

From my reading, 1.5" extra width is considered "safe" from rubbing.

TyG8GXP
01-19-2012, 10:30 AM
I'll go a few times to get a #, but I won't go weekly.

I think, and are hoping as far as rubbing goes, the fender lip I should be ok, the inner fender well is where I worry. If I have to run a spacer I will, but Livernois had a GXP guy run 305's on either a widened 9.5" or 10", and they said there were no issues, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

TyG8GXP
01-19-2012, 03:47 PM
Few pics...

My buddy that was installing them had issues with both tires getting the bead to seal, so it took a little longer than expected, which meant they didn't get put on the car yet.

Both tires in my back seat headed to the shop. Can you say, utility vehicle? Haha

Got one side on. It's hard to say since the suspension isn't fully loaded, since it was just up in the air, but it looks like no rubbing, but it does look close.

TyG8GXP
01-20-2012, 11:17 AM
Well, it's close. I went ahead and ordered some .75" spacers to push other out a bit. As it sits, they don't rub, but under dips, and turns, it'll be close.

Pics soon.

What throws me off, is the wheels are actually wider than posted. The standard 8" wheel width is between the beads. Not outside edge to outside edge.

Your cars looks great, nice build!

I wouldn't recommend the LS7 setup. It works great in the Z06, but the G8 is much heavier and with the power you're going to make it probably won't last long. We originally put this in our GXP with Kooks mids, Corsa, Rotofab, and stage 1C cam with stock heads. It made 455 RWHP and the clutch was better than stock, but was still not happy when it heated up. We swapped it for a twin disc and it's been great!

The twins are noisy. The triples are actually quiet. The neutral noise isn't that bad though, and if you play with it enough, you can get the car to idle at a speed and in a fashion that doesn't make them rattle much (it's actually transmission noise being transmitted). My BC2 and every other BC2 I've known made a little noise in neutral while idling (was worse at lower idle speeds). The BC3 I have, and the BC3 my buddy has don't make a peep. However, a BC2 or BC3 is overkill for Ty's car. Lol.

$$$$$ for the triples (or any RPS) I'd look into McLeod either RST or RXT.. My RXT was noisy during break in but once past the first 500 miles she got quiet.. I believe someone here put a RXT in their GXP

I just put (okay, well Livernois actually put it in lol) an RXT in mine. Haven't had much chance to drive it yet, but it definitely wasn't noisy. Did chatter a bit, but I'm assuming that'll all smooth out once I get some miles on it. Smooth as butter up/down shifting though!

No doubt, but you get what you pay for... and you gotta pay to play. ;) My BC3 drives better than my stock clutch ever did. When I had my BC2, I beat the living hell out of that thing, and after 5000 miles it looked brand new.

First of all, big thanks to Jeff (Maxpower), he cut a 1/2 inch off of the stock studs, and he grinded down his 7/8 drive to fit the holes on the adapters to tighten them down. Also, the nuts I got sat flush, once torqued down!

Worked great! Sorry for the iPhone pics.

Awesome! Hey, you think Weld Craft can just weld a 7/8"(or what ever thickness that spacer is) to the wheel while they have them to widen?

No idea, wouldn't hurt to ask them if it's possible.

Weldcraftwheels will not do that. It's stated on their web site. They can change the offset of a steel wheel.

Well, after some thinking/debating, I've decided, that for the time being, I'm just going to have my Longtubes/catted mids, Cradle/Diff bushings, and crossbrace installed, and wait on the heads/cam. Between my wedding in 5 1/2 months, the honeymoon, and saving for a house soon after the wedding, I wouldn't be doing my bank account a favor by spending a few thousand on heads/cam, and the install.

Change of plans. Asked my installer for a price of just the cam/accessories/headers, and it was cheap enough I'll be able to do it, heads will just wait, those alone were $1000+ including the labor for them.

Well its time for my cam upgrade. What were your intentions when picking out the cam? Max HP, good driveablity, ........?

Good driveability, moderate to heavy chop, good power gains. Didn't want the biggest cam there was, and don't care about perfect driveability since it's not my DD, but it still can very much so be driven everyday. Even my fiancé who just started driving a manual a few months ago has no issue with it.

Pretty much all my goals were met with this cam.

Did that include having the heads worked? I was kind of curious how my baby cam in my A6 stacked up to something a lot bigger. And obviously I lose a couple with the auto but i'd say its still pretty close if you just had the cam in. Really nice car though you've done a great job been following a bit on your TT build and nice color choice, lol!

Nope. No head work. I would have easily gained an extra 10-20hp with some porting/milling, but glad I didn't now that I have the TT kit.

Solid HP numbers, I'm at 420/430 with Kooks LT/Xpipe, Vmax TB and Vararam. Still kicking around doing a cam.

You should do it.

Just don't do a baby cam, you won't lose the low end torque that people say, and if it does, it's very minimal.
