It looks as if I am leaning toward snow tires for the off season. Those of us in New England are well aware of what winter can bring and since I am without an import beater or an SUV as a secondary - I am most likely going to purchase snows for my stockers. I'm looking at 245/45-18's as I don't want a third set of rims to kick around as space is quite limited here.

I guess you could say this is a feeler as I would be open to buying a slightly used set of winters from someone minus the rims to save on shipping and cost. I would also be open to a trade as I have my Summer stockers the Goodyear Eagle F1's with about 25k miles on them exactly with plenty of tread. Local is preferred but anyone please let me know...

I just picked up a set of used Michelin Alpine PA3s for a good deal. They have one more winter left in them then I'm burning them off in the spring/summer. I recently had a thread on winter tires and the word on the street is they are a must!

Anyhow, good luck finding a set!

last season after MUCH homework and deliberation, I got a set of Michelin X-Ice Xi2 (http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireModel=X-Ice+Xi2&tireMake=Michelin)'s in 245/45/18 for my OE stockers. I did get them from the 'Rack, and IIRC it cost somewhere around $1150 for 4 shipped cross-border. Only winter tire that needs apply in Edmonton with its unplowed side-roads and crazy Alberta winters of typical -40 or lower temps. city experienced "Snowpocalypse" last year too with levels of the white stuff not seen in 30 years. car took it like a boss, never stuck once, never a loss of traction, no problems at all. can't say that of the OE Goodyears the year before, wow. 2.4 million miles reported on TireRack, and still #1. read the reviews, serious tires for serious shit weather. the wife's new car is getting a set, as are the parents.
