Seems like a lot of GT and GXP's are for sale, but it seems like there are less takers than sellers. Why is that? I know the general "A to B" person will not consider buying a Pontiac, let alone a V8. Do you think that's the reason?
I could see that the fit and finish isn't that great on G8, but I don't care for fit and finish that much. I care more about the engine, transmission and if I want to get in it in the morning or not. But from some of the articles I've been reading, the G8, although it probably got the best reviews as being "bang for the money" in the mid to full size segment, and although it's been hailed as USA's M5, the sales numbers don't really show this before Pontiac went out of business. Also, GM making a statement that G8 will not be born under another GM label.
I see where it lacks, as far as ergonomics, and few other pleasantries goes, but honestly, I don't think you could do any better for the price it was offered. A lot of the G8 GXP owners are selling their cars for a lot of money, thinking that it's a "collectors item", which doesn't make any sense, because in order for this car to be a collectors item, it has to have about 5000 miles and survived through the next 20 years in a vacuumed bubble in a shed somewhere.
With 2010 Camero SS going as low as $23,000 with 2x,xxx miles, what makes the G8 GXP and GT that desirable to consumers that's bombarded with tons of V8's and V10's that cost similar to what GXP's are going for on the market place with brand recognition? What is the depreciation value on GXP compare to BMW or Mercedes or Accura or even other GM cars.
I drove and raced on SCCA for a bit, and always drove an import, specifically Japanese cars, except for that weird time in my life where I drove a BMW 5 series and a Volvo 8 Series. But as I get older and older, I find a big GM cars with big motor with a good suspension more tasteful than a 4 banger has to work its ass off to get anywhere. I drove a prelude with a turbo (a long time ago while I was going to college), Evo with 4xxwhp, Volvo with nothing but comfort, BMW with the damn A pillar right in your left eye (which is the reason why I hate BWM's), and Honda S2000, which is probably the perfect car, if I didn't have a dog, or family or kids, or basically nothing, which never works out.
So, GXP... It's big, nimbler than most big car that size, quicker than most car that size, but it lacks so much refinement of other cars in the market that's in the same performance category. So I don't understand why GXP doesn't depreciate as much as Mercedes AMG cars, or BMW's 6 series or 540, 545's, or even Audi's S series. I know that Evo don't depreciate. S2000 don't depreciate that much, but all the other GM, Dodge cars are depreciating beyond it's worth, I think.
What is the verdict on GXP? If I could buy a 09' Challenger SRT8 for $30k with 6K miles on it, and everyone is selling their G8 GXP for $30k with 30k miles, there has to be something great about this car, except for the fact that they don't make it anymore (which isn't true, because G8 GT is 5th gen Holden and they won't stop making G8's in Australia).
Anyway, I thought I would share and ask.
Thx.

Because it costs half the price of these and competes very very well with them. Also, as far as sales numbers are concerned there were just over 1800 total GXPs produced...hence the low sales volume.

But we don't live in the tracks. And all the competition for GXP is a lot more refined, even when they do have a V6, like Altima.

You spoke of how they were in the same performance category so I gave you the reason why. Also, I'm not quite sure how the Altima would be considered competition for the GXP. I don't see any 4 door V8s out there aside from the previously named German cars, CTS-v, Dodge Charger and the Hyundai Genesis 5.0. The price on most of those is much higher than the GXP.

You said it. Its bigger, more nimble, quicker and half the price of those other very high dollar and prestigious sedans.

It's also good-old American pride. Even though "technically" it's Australian, it is still GM product, and it was a damn fine one too. Even though the GXP upgrade was waaay overpriced (IMHO all they should have done was ditch DOD and keep the GXP rims), even at $40K it was a comparative bargain. Personally the fit and finish in my G8 is better than any other car I've owned, and I have also not experienced alot of the failures/TSBs that others have had, so I may be spoiled. However, you pointed it out- it's big, comfy, powerful, nimble beyond its girth, and for those who don't like "as-is", there is a veritable shit-ton of mods, parts, and individualizations for it.
GM is just plain stupid, with all the CTS/Camaro production here, if they were really intent on making money, they could have done a small expansion and built it there. Hell, if you simply took the Camaro suspension/brakes and moved it over, there is a whole bunch of stuff you're now defraying over 2 models. I know there might be other reasons "why not" but I haven't heard any good ones. If they would pull the cop-only designation off Caprices I'm sure they'd sell way more than they expected.... but it needs to be priced around $27k.

Altima and GXP G8 in the same sentence is a joke. I think the reason the sales weren't better is no one knew what they were getting. Just remember these are made by Holden, who is used to competing with BMW and Mercedes in Europe, but have a American made LS motor at its heart. Believe me, if my finances were different, I would be driving a GXP right now. BTW I loved lining up against S2000's in my plain G8 Gt and showing them American muscle. I had one S2000, still sporting it's paper tag, whipping in and out of traffic, come up next to me at the red light. Lets just say I showed him what he should of bought.

That's got to be the most ignorant thing from the 1980's I heard so far. I grew up in GA, raced in AL, so I don't know what you have, but I'm pretty sure if you're happy with beating a brand new S2000 in a drag race, you probably haven't been in racing for a long time.
That and the fact that we all knew that there was always a faster and better driver out there, no matter what they drove, so we always gave respect to everyone, instead of saying "my stuff is better than another stuff".
Sorry, but I grew out of that Juvenile thinking a long time ago.

I drove and going to buy a Mercedes AMG C63, but man, those paddle shifters suck really bad. Good engine though. Don't get me wrong, I love a good driver in a good american car, but a good driver that could go drag and corner are hard to find.
GM made a business decision to kill G8 and Pontiac, because they weren't selling well in the world that we live in. A dull looking sedan with poor interior fit and finish will not satisfy old people and woman. And there are only so many kids that wants this overpriced car vs some import car that doesn't cost their parents crazy insurance money. And anybody who makes money in their 30's will either buy an Audi or BMW, so you're left customers that would not pay $40k for a new pontiac but willing to pay $40k for a used M3, except for those in the knows.
But that's what I have gathered.
I'm actually buying a G8 GXP, so I'd love to say, "American Pride" but it's made in Canada, but I honestly don't care, because I think it's a good car.
We're the only country that plays the Ego, Super Ego game by saying, "American Pride". Every other country don't give a damn if it's made in some island off of Taiwan, as long as it works, lasts, good quality and cheap.

You're wrong. It was made in Australia and shipped here. Maybe you should pass on the G8 since it's a dull looking sedan with poor fit and finish and only kids want it.... do yourself right and pick up that C63 with parts that cost about 4 times as much, gets worse mileage, mods cost at least triple, and is obviously a much better financial deal than some 2.5 year old Pontiac. Enjoy your sucky paddle shifters.

Sorry. Thought you started it. Thought you said the S2000 was the best thing ever made? I've just had to work on a few of them. Most of their owners think the same thing.
Honestly, I just thought that it was funny that the S2000 was whipping in and out of traffic like that and then got spanked by a 4dr sedan. My boss, with his seven second cars, just laughed at me when I told him I'm was just now in the bracket that needed a helmet. :-P
Glad to hear your getting a GXP. Great car for the $. No. It wont be perfect.

You want a more refined car? That's gay. When I say gay I mean stupid. But you're still a fuckimg faggot. I'm serious. Only a total cocksmoke would put the G8 GXP and Nissan Altima in the same sentence. You must be fucking retarded. I've yet to read the rest of the shit you stained this thread with because this particular post is so fucking gay. I mean, at least try and be somewhat funny in a comparison if you're trying to put down a vehicle you lack the testicular fortitude to operate. How have you not been removed from the gene pool yet? It is amazing we haven't been able to cleanse ourselves of your inferior genetic profile. That can only mean one thing. There is a God and He has taken a massive amout of pity on you. I recently traded my 1998 BMW 540 in for the 2009 G8 GT I now own. I loved my bmw, wrenched on it a bunch and it drove wonderfully and had some serious power. It was also a very sharp car that looked 4 years old instead of almost 14.
That being said, I think my G8 looks sharper and "meaner", drives very similarly as far as handling but this 6 liter kicks this car to 100 mph significantly faster and just as refined imo. There are many similarities but I feel the G8 got it better by having more leg room and cabin room in general, the stereo is MUCH better and the styling is just as good if not better. The paint and finish is not quite as good, it chips much easier and dents easier also.
I saw a 540 just like my old one today and I thought to myself, "damn, I'm sure glad I bought the G8". And this is after 4 years of loving that BMW....
I'm new, I know shit about cams and have no clue who maggie is but I will say the G8 GT (and of course GXP) is the best thing Pontiac ever did and might just be the best 4 door sedan under $50K that came out in the last few years. I'm in love with mine...... except this damn braking at 45 that pulses/shimmies.... The rotors in the front are sure small compared to the BMW front rotors, maybe that's why they warp easily. I never said this car is perfect........
