Has anyone had any issues with the front Hub Bearing making noise ?? I thought it was my tires but it turns out to be the left front hub assembly....It is not loose yet but is making a grinding noise.....

Just wondering if anyone else has had this issue....I just turned 62K.....and I wonder if the 20" Camaro Wheels have anything to do with it....

More likely a good pot hole hit damaged the bearing. After a while the it starts grinding like you hear now

Yeah I had my drivers side shit the bed. They blamed it on the Camaro wheels but I feel that was a BS. GM never wants to take responsibility for their crappy quality.
They ended up replacing both sides for me under warranty ..this was after I argued with them for two days. My g8 only had 10k on it.
That was my argument .. like GT Drew stated .. A good pot hole or something related will do it.

well i am out of warranty so i will pay, at least it is only a 15 minute install, remove the wheel, two caliper bolts, slide off rotor, three bolts to the hub, too easy........i didn't trust ordering it online so i ordered one from NAPA, cost is $219 and will be here Wednesday. It is made by SKF so hopefully better quality.....I found a National Bearing number but it did not exist...

Thanks, I did call the dealer today and they did confirm that.....I am still tempted to do it myself just to not have to go to the stealership.....I would have to drop it off for a day to get it diagnosed, then wait a week for the part, if it even gets there that quick....... I just hate going there.....I run a shop, the aftermarket hub is $220 and will probably take me ten minutes to install....I can have the part as early as tomorrow.....

Mine is starting to make noise when turning right, too (driver's side bearing). The right side seems fine, but definitely a different noise coming from the left front. I am trying to ride mine out till winter and do the repairs then. I also need to do the strut bushings and other bushing upgrades. I hate the quality of many of these parts, but I always try to be positive and say to myself "its a great platform with more potential than I have skill". So, when the crappy GM parts go south, I look to add ones that keep making this thing better than most other 4-doors on the planet.

JJhummus, don't wait. Get it replaced. That is a serious safety item. Besides, GM doesn't make bearings, just like the doesn't make light bulbs. They are supplied under contract to GM.

Just curious if your problem was solved on this? My car makes this horrendous grinding noise from the left front wheel only when it is hot and I make a slow hard left turn, or U turn. The bearing has no play in it and doesn't feel bad when inspecting it. When I make a left hand U turn and I lock the wheel to the left it grinds real bad. I looked all around and cannot find any marks or damage from grinding. I'm thinking the bearing is doing something weird when it gets hot.

I also have had the dealer look at this and they don't think it is the bearing, but I have my doubts. I replaced the LCA's already. The dealer replaced the front struts, strut mounts and strut bearings. Nothing else in front end is left, except bearing. The delaership has recently thought it could be the power steering rack. That just doesn't make sense to me. I think they are stabbing in the dark on this one.

Well your dealer needs to replace it, the hub bearings are covered on your powertrain warranty which is still good till 100k

Yeah I thought at first I was hearing shit, but mine too is making noise when turning to the right. Time to give Jamie at Skillman GMC a call....

Well I finally got car back two days ago. Wheel bearing noise still there after all these parts have been replaced to solve the problem:
-front struts, strut bushings, strut bearings.
-front lower control arms.
-power steering rack.
Will go back next week to see if they want to listen to me and replace front wheel bearings. Sometimes you (GM) might have to listen to customer. Anyhow thanks for the new front suspension. See how it goes next week.

Dealer said there was nothing wrong with my wheel bearing. Tried to blame it on a plug in the tire, and the fact that it started after they rotated the wheels... I was like, "I don't care, I've got 68k more miles to get this out of you..." I explained that it was a continuous noise when turning right. Oh well. This time I will chalk it up to holiday expediency.

My dealer swears its not the bearing either. They replaced everything but that. Im ready to order the damn bearing myself and replace it. Then go back and say, "I told you so" like a 7 yr old.

Back in 2009 when my car was only a few weeks old they replaced both of my front wheel bearings. I was getting the same sound you describe and once replaced it was all gone.

That is very encouraging. I will definitely complain more to get them to replace them. It is really an embarrassing noise. You have this nice car then make a sharp turn in a parking lot and then this god awful humming/ringing noise appears and everyone is like, what the hell was that.

Hell I might really rub it in by taking the G8 to my Subaru dealer, and having THEM replace it. Call the parts counter at GM and be like, "Mhmm, yeah we need a wheel bearing, it's covered under warranty but Chris trusts us more than you to work on your cars."

:)

Merry Christmas!

Passenger side shit the bed recently. Replaced under warranty. It was the entire hub assembly, front passenger side.

I just scheduled an appointment for my 09 to get the rear cover replaced as its leaking :facepalm2:, and there was a "manufacturer campaign or recall" for repacking the front bearings. This one seems to be recall, just on the DL.

Repacking the bearings? Our wheel bearings are sealed hub units...

Interesting thread. Never heard of a rear cover issue.

Probably rear main seal housing. There's a tsb for porosity issues
