It's amazing what a clay bar can do for the surface of your car. It's also amazing that you have to pay almost 20$ to get one of the stinkin' things. I found a way to get a great clay bar for about 1$ a bar.

Run of the mill stick tack, blue tack, whatever brand name you please. The stuff is identical to an expensive mild clay bar, and does an EXCELLENT job. I've been using it for years on my vehicles.

Mix up some very concentrated car wash solution (1:1 or so) or use a quick detailer as lube, and get to work.

I'm cheap guys, it's how I roll. =)

thanks for the tip :) There's plenty of other things to throw money at with these cars!

I am a clay bar believer. Got any before/after pics?

Negative. Not trying to convince anyone, just letting the cheap bastards out there like me know that there are other options.

Pace just picked this brand up and I was looking through the products and found this.

Magna Sponge - $12.00. I haven't checked one out yet since I need to order them.

The only issue I'd see is that it may hold the contaminate against the paint more than clay would. For twelve bucks, I'd say try it. I've used clay for the past 15 years with nary an issue though. I've also used that wall tack stuff for probably 25 years, and while they look similar to the eye, the composition is different. Not saying it doesn't work however.

I can honestly say I would never use that, but to each their own! Nice find if it works for you!

I can't see that working nearly as well. but I'm open to proof. I just don't see that having any abrasive quality to to to cut the dirt.

I've tried the clay sponge. Wasn't impressed.

Interesting... you'd think the loctite would capitalize on this if it were equally effective. Might have to try it myself.

Kudos to you for exploring the option... I've used the stuff before (for the intended purpose) and never thought of trying it to decontaminate paint. Speaking from experience, silly putty does not work.
