Has anyone had any problems with the cruise control not turning on? I just got the car and tried to turn it on by pressing the button on the end of the stick and then twisting it downward. Any thoughts?

I've never had any problems with mine. Are you trying to push and twist at the same time? If so, don't. Push the button on the end of the stick, and the DIC should say "Cruise On." When you're at the speed you want twist it down in the "Set-" direction, and the DIC should now say "Cruise Active." To disengage either tap the brakes or push the button again and the DIC will go back to saying "Cruise On" (though it's actually disengaged this point and in more of a standby mode.) Press the button a second time and it says "Cruise Off" or twist up in the "Res+" direction and it will go back to your previous set speed. Hopefully this helps. If not, I have no idea what the problem could be.

Check the fuses.

Cruise control is powered by fuse F9 in the instrument panel fuse block (drivers side kick panel.) If it's not the fuse, it's probably gonna need to be checked out by an expert.

Checked the fuse, looked fine, hooked up hptuners and it has code p0575. Anyone?

Does anyone have a dealers troubleshooting guide based on trouble code? I.E. what to check first?

DTC Descriptor
DTC P0575

Cruise Control Switch Signal Circuit
Circuit/System Description

When a cruise control function switch is activated, the body control module (BCM) detects a predetermined voltage signal. The BCM (http://www.alldatadiy.com/alldata/AFI~V27462304~C44863~R0~OD~N/0/128809663/133596548/133596590/133596595/34853741/34857029/34857030/86083499) sends a serial data message to the engine control module (ECM) indicating the function that has been requested.

Conditions for Running the DTC

The ignition is ON.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

The ECM receives an invalid cruise control switch status serial data message from the BCM (http://www.alldatadiy.com/alldata/AFI~V27462304~C44863~R0~OD~N/0/128809663/133596548/133596590/133596595/34853741/34857029/34857030/86083499).
This diagnostic runs continuously.
Actions Taken When the DTC Sets

The cruise control system is disabled.
The malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) will not illuminate.
Conditions for Clearing the DTC

The condition responsible for setting the DTC no longer exists.
A history DTC will clear after 40 malfunction-free ignition cycles have occurred.

Circuit/System Verification

Verify that DTC B3794 is not set.

¤
If DTC is set, refer to DTC B3794 (See: B Code Charts\B3794 (http://www.alldatadiy.com/alldata/AFI~V27462304~C44863~R0~OD~N/0/128809663/133596548/133596590/133596595/34853741/34857029/34857030/34857663/122915129/168124198/168183543))

Road test the vehicle and attempt to engage cruise. Verify that cruise control engages properly and the DTC P0575 is not set.

¤
If DTC resets, replace the BCM (http://www.alldatadiy.com/alldata/AFI~V27462304~C44863~R0~OD~N/0/128809663/133596548/133596590/133596595/34853741/34857029/34857030/86083499). Clear the DTC, road test the vehicle and attempt to engage cruise. If the DTC resets, replace the ECM.

All the other tests require a Scan Tool. And I'm afraid that the last sentence above is important:

If DTC resets, replace the Body Control Module. Clear the DTC, road test the vehicle and attempt to engage cruise. If the DTC resets, replace the Engine Control Module.

Sorry there wasn't better news.

(I may be remembering something from another car, but I thought there was a post about a failed Center High Mounted Stop Lamp that could disable the cruise control - but as I said, that could have been from some other vehicle.)

Mime will turn on with the side button but will not set. Not all the time and hard to replicate.

That's probably the stop lamp switch. It's pretty common in the GM world. There are 2 micro switches in there, and the one that talks to the ecm is probably sticking, causing the ecm to think that the brakes are applied, keeping you from engaging the cruise. Cheap and easy fix. IIRC, the part lists around $20.

Just checked and yes it is..if you let off the brake pedal just right the tail lights will stay lit up.
