Hey guys i was thinking of trading in my 09 G8 Gt with 14,000 miles on it. I bought it brand new in 09 but i just dont drive it much at all. My question is this I have modded the car with the exhaust with American Racing headers with hi-flow cats and corsa muffs in the back and cold air intake and car has been tunned. Do you think I would have trouble with trade in value because of this?? Or should I just put it all back to stalk and then do it? The car is in Flawless condition inside and out has never seen rain or snow I spend more time cleaning it then I do driving it. So was wondering what you guys think or if anyone has traded in a modded car and how they were treated

I don't think it will de-value your car with those mods, but I don't think they will give you anymore money then they would with or without.

I doubt that the dealer would give you any more with the mods that you have on it. I would de-mod if you had the original parts to put back on it.

My best estimate would be that a dealer will try to convince you that trade-in value is lower because of the mods. Don't accept that argument. The mods will not increase the value of the car unless you are willing to wait for the private buyer that would otherwise want do to the mods and understands the real value of them. At best you will get 50% of the mod cost back that way. Which is probably about what you could sell the mods for on the open market. So, if you are going to trade it in, pull the mods and sell them separate. If you are going to sell to private buyer then don't waste the time to pull them.

Or best option, keep the car!!

I am not expecting to get more because of the mods at all. Just dont wanna hear BS from the dealer because i did mod the car. I have all the original parts but to put back on if i have too. But i had all the parts put on from a performance shop out of state and also tunned there just dont want to have to go back to have it all removed and put back to original tune condition.

depending on the dealer they may give you less bc of the mods.

I think you should take off the exhaust and sell it for a steal to the first pleasant Canadian that asks politely to buy it...PLEASE!?!?!?! I'll come and get it!

Even with the cost of having it removed and the stock exhaust reinstalled it still sounds like you'd come out ahead (considering you might not get any more on a trade for it...) Just sayin'.

Advertise and sell the car yourself. Write up you did here is pretty concise. You will do better on the dollar side. And you could place it with a good home.

Your best bet is to find someone willing to buy all the mods for one lump sum and is willing to swap them out themselves. Then you can try and walk away with 40-50% of their original cost. I've done this before and it worked. I ended up with $2k more than I would have gotten trading it in. Good luck.

Put car back to stock and then trade. Sell parts and make up for buying them.
