Crap!!!! Sometime last night, I broke the seat trim getting out of the car. :( I now have to find and deal with a dealership to get it fixed. I part that broke was inside the seat, so I am thinking it will be a while for them to fix it. Since it is covered under the B2B, can I get a 'free' rental while it is in the shop? Any suggestions finding and dealing with a service advisor? I'd hate to have the car sitting outside in the back lot waiting on parts.

It's covered under the B2B warranty,I'm on my 3rd one. Have them order one if not in stock before you take it in, and it only takes less than 1/2 hour to install.
Goodluck.

That's good to know it's a simple job. I will run by the dealership afterwork tomorrow and get the ball rolling. I can seem me self breaking many more of them since they are not loadtested for heavyset Americans. :)

Yup, mine broke and had to be replaced as well. The new one is loosening with time, too. It's just a really bad design.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that, yeah, it's covered under the B2B. So you'll be taken care of.

Common problem and like said by others it's truly a crappy design. I'm hoping to get mine taken care of this week along with the windshield delamination at the top. I would be very curious to see what the VE2 design is like (especially the PPV Carprice).

I am on number 3 in only 17K miles. I have been trying to make sure I do not put any pressure on it when I get in and out of the car.

Its pretty sad that we cannot even sit correct in a car without worrying that a plastic POS will break off the side of the seat.
I will be going on 3 now w/ only 10k on the odometer ..noticed tonight that one clip already broke and this was just recently replaced 3 months ago.

On #4 and #4 just broke the other day. This is fucking bullshit.

The fact that this will be broken after the warranty expires is such bullshit.

I agree. I think I'm going to ask the dealer if they can order me two next time. I will pay for the second one seeing how the average is 1.5 per year for me.

All this time I thought I was the only one having this break so easy.

My mother has broken two on her G8 so far.

See.. that just tells you that this is a shitty ass design. Too common of a problem.

Dealer told me the 2nd time around.. yeah crappy design but hey we will warranty it .. Its not the point of warranty its the point of the inconvenience of making an appointment and getting down there to have them fix it all the time. Might be the pleather seats. They seem to be a little cushy on the side and presses against these cheesy plastic clips which just snap off.

I never had mine fixed, traded it in that way, lol

I've had both sides replaced. Under warranty of course. They ordered the part and I came back when it came in. 30 minute wait to replace them.

I fixed mine with a long zip tie. All internal, you can't see it, and (i think/hope) it won't break again

I used a zip tie after it broke as temp fix, I will use it now to help prevent it from breaking again after it's replaced.

I did this after my second one broke, haven't had a single issue with it in the year+ it's been like that, still stays up against the seat when empty etc. Sucks the molded in clip is so weak, but at least with the zip-tie you can't see it unless you're on the floor and looking up and under the seat.

I'm on my 4th. I had all the work done by a local Chevy dealership, this time I'm taking it back to the Pontiac dealership where I bought the car. The service writer told me the molding had a 12 month warranty on it. I guess a perpetual rolling 12 month warranty is OK, better than it coming from my pocket, be it a 5 cent piece or a $25 piece.

I agree the design is horrible. I had zero problems with my 2005 GTO, but I don't remember what the side of the seats looked like.

Welcome to the club. I'm on my fifth, my dealer would not warranty the last one, said gm only allows 3 and they ate the 4th one. It is very aggravating!

that's rather personal :cool2:
that said, I am willing to admit to too much, but, I have an 2002 buick rendezvous with 150K that we bought new that no seat part has broken yet. I have had a couple of grand prix, a couple of G6's, and several other GM & ford vehicles over the years and never had any part in the seat break. In another thread on this same issue , the same question of weight was brought up and the answer was all over the place from mid 100's to over 300. I have tried numerous and sometimes complex ways of getting in and out and eventually it still happens. I am pretty sure it happens mostly when I am exiting the car and you swing your legs out and the seat bolster is on the high side, supported by this trim piece rather than as it should be with seat frame.
How much do you guys weigh?

I do not think it has to do with anyone's weight.. these are just poorly designed plastic trim pieces. Nobody should be breaking the seat trim piece at all.
Never once in all my cars have I had interior pieces break all the time. This car I had multiple pieces replaced.

Seems like some interior items were just cheaply engineered with "SOME" poor materials. The dash is the only thing I can say is above average.

6'6" 230lbs, so granted I have some long legs I need to stick over the side of the seat when getting out.

If it's breaking for people that only weigh around 200 lbs, then it's definitely a poor design. I could see it possibly breaking for people that are considerably more than that though. Sucks that so many of you are having trouble with it, especially because the warranty isn't going to last forever.

I had mine break as well, twice. It is a crap design. The clips are too flimsy. Mine is out of warranty. I used superglue to glue the plastic clip together the first time. This held for about a month.
The second time it broke, i superglued it back together, then you get a special powder you mix with superglue which sets like rock. I filled the voids in the clip with this powder, then squeezed superglue in.
It now has completely solid clips. Has not broken since. The superglue and powder come as a kit, made by Q-Bond.
