Charlie or anyone else for that matter, can you Identify these five pieces that I found in the differential of a 2000 Dodge Dakota? I am getting a intermittent grinding noise and I'm sure this has something to do with that. I'm kind of surprised that it is not a constant grinding!!
Took them out and I still have the noise. I also noticed that the pinion gear did have a small chip off of one tooth. That will have to be replaced along with what ever else I find once I take this all apart.

First time doing a Diff. :uhm: It's good to learn something new, right?

The three cylindrical pieces all have threads going about half way up and then the rest is smooth. The other two pieces looks like it used to be a square at one time and broke in half.

The two lower pieces look to be part of the cage of a tapered roller bearing. Either pinion of diff carrier. The pieces of broker bolts, I hope they are not from the ring gear.
Have you thought about just buying a whole used rear end. It will cost less in the long run.

I see that there might be another dakota at the local Pick-and -pull to maybe get a used rear end. I kind of want to do some work on it and learn.
Guess I need to pull it apart first to see what I have going on.
