Wheel spacer question take 2

I just had another idea that actually might be related to my original question regarding wheel spacers. I'm considering having the factory wheels widened 1.5 to 2 inches. Now, given that scenario, would it be a bad idea to get longer wheel studs and put a wheel spacer on the car to make the wheel fit better?

As long as you have a quality spacer, you'll be fine. I don't know how far out you would really be able to space it.

I was thinking of doing this in the future. I think after a certain thickness of the wheel spacer they come with their own studs. So you wouldnt have to get longer studs.

Are the studs high quality? I plan on putting down at least 500 horsepower one day.

If you widen the factory wheels you will have to add the width to the inside of the rim. Spacers will push the rim out too far IMO. They sit almost flush with the edge of the fender/quarter panel as it is. IMO spacers are a bandaid on a gunshot wound. Nothing good can come of it.

Also what ive seen people do is weld a spacer to the wheel to make it stick out more.Since you are having the wheels wided you can ask if they can do that too.

I don't have a G8 yet but from all of the pictures that I've seen it looks like there is at least 1/2 to maybe 3/4 of an inch before the wheels are flush with the fender. If you can post some pics of the stock wheels that show otherwise I would appreciate it.

Also, does anyone know the offset of the stock rims? That will tell me if this will work or not.

The stock wheels are 49 mm. I've read some say 48 mm. The G8 that Justice Pete runs mounts 275/35-19 on all 4 corners on 19x9.5 with 43 mm offsets. He says these clear on his lowered G8. Keep in mind he runs some pretty aggressive negative camber numbers.

Just to make sure I'm thinking about this correctly I'm going to type it out. Check my thought process please.

Stock rim size = 19" x 8" with a 49mm offset

1" = 25.4mm

8" wide rim with a 49mm offset. Add 2" to the back side of the rim. This changes the offset to 74.4mm (25.4mm + 49mm = 74.4mm) which is a little too much. Add a 3/4" (19.05mm) spacer and it reduces the offset to 55.35mm which I think is a pretty close to perfect on a 10" wide rim. Given the fact that the rim is 19" tall rim instead of a 20" tall rim I think the fender clearance issues will be slightly less. The only real unknown for me is the clearance on the backside or the wheel. Since people are currently running 10" rims on their Holden and G8s so I have to believe that there is enough room on the inside of the fender well.

Am I missing something obvious? If so please point it out.

They're all chops courtesy of me. I think the fat tires looks really cool. Plus the sleeper affect of being the stock rims kicks ass too.
