View Full Version : What are your modding plans for 09

I was just curious to see what mods some will be doing for 09. Now that more and more parts are becoming available for the G8, modding will be much easier then it was early this year. For myself the list is long and will begin in mid Jan. I have been collecting parts to save time, but here is the 09 list and we will all see how far we get.
Vector Motorsports custom cam/heads and tune. No DOD.
Circle D Speciaties 3600 stall w/trans cooler and braided hoses
Vararam
Oil catch can and braided hoses
Billet fuel rails and braided hoses
Light weight wheels- 17x9.5 rear 17x4 front
Autometer gauges in HSV center pod
Corsa mufflers
Pedders XA Coilovers
And a low 11sec time slip!

For the G8 I will do a CAI, Tune, and maybe headers.
I still have the GTO. If I sold it I'd have plenty of mod money. I still have mods sitting in the garage that needs to still be installed on the GTO. Money has been tight since my future is so unsure at the time.

I have been collecting parts for 4 months. If it wasnt for the great vendors/sponsors on this site, none of this would be possible with the current economy.

My initial mod wish list for 2009:
1. New Era OTR CAI
2. Corsa catback exhaust
3. A tune
4. Pedders Street 2 with drop
I'm concerned the first three mods may cause issues come smog check time.
All this modding stuff is new to me, but should I be concerned?
GRRRR8
12-27-2008, 10:14 PM
No reason to be concerned. Just swap your stock airbox back in come smog check time and you will be fine.

Performance- Lt's and full exhaust (not positive on brand yet), H/C setup through Vector or Livernois, Vararam, and tune. I'd like to do a stall and possibly gears, but sit back a little while to see whats working for others.
Appearance- tint, wheels (leaning towards GTS), Gts fenders. Gts front end if money allows.

I've got all the rear bushings from Pedders on the way. The Xa coil-overs are ordered. The front will get done when the coil-overs get here, the sway bars too.
I'm going to do the GM Hot Cam, thanks to Charlie, and I will have the heads done.
Late next year, my birthday is in July- lol, I will do either a Procharger or a TT system. The HOB system is where I'm leaning now.

#2 pedders something kit + dr's
#3 8.8 kit from hendrix (if it happens)

IF I ever get the GXP I plan on getting a CAI then a tune and then LT headers. I'm going to have to wait a little while for big mods. I'm on the fence about wheels. I can't decide whether to buy after market wheels or have the stock wheels widened for the stealthy factor. Currently I'm leaning towards widening the stock wheels.

make hood functional............
That would actually be a pretty cool thing. For the Procharger that is. Reroute the air coming into the scoops to an enclosure right where the filter is on the Procharger system. Kind of like the LS based Camaro SS hood.

ProCharger really would benefit most from a cowl induction setup. Too bad nobody makes just a flat glass hood, could glass on the cowl scoop easily enough.

Only plans are to take the car to Fasterproms for dyno tuning of the stock ECM. Other than that, unless something else is offered I cannot do without, that is pretty much it for the go fast stuff. I do have the painted engine cover from Roto Fab and that oil catch can from Jamesbiz already ordered.

For me:
1) working on stereo right now(two RF Power T1s & Hifonics BXi2008d amp at 1ohm)
2) window tint
3) full exhaust(longtubes & matching mid section, leaning towards pypes violators mufflers), CAI & HPtuners software, tuned at PCMforless(about 1.5hrs from me)
4) wheels & suspension--either 20 or 22s and a slight lowering
Just gotta see how much OT I can squeeze in at work, and I got several things I want to finish at the house too, so we'll see

5)BMR subframe connectors.
6)BMR lower control arms.

I'm picking up my Kook's LT headers and X-pipe today and then will have to wait to install until I can figure which intake to get. Vararam or maybe the new roto fab ram air when it get's done. Then I can get it tuned.
I'm on the pre-order list for the Pedders XA Coilovers and ordered the street 1 package to make it a street II kit. Also ordered the Strut bar brace.

With a new baby on the way, it'll be tough to put some money away for some mods, but I have already gotten the go-ahead from mommy-to-be for me to drive up to VMS for my tune/CAI package. After that, the only thing I would be tempted to get is a cat-back system, but this is doubtful.
After the tune and CAI, I will most likely look for a slightly used set of 19" stock wheels/tires for cheap. I like my 18" wheels ok, but I love the 19" look.

I'm going to do a few performance upgrades as well as asthetic. 6.0L badges, G2 paint kit for my brakes, maybe the flying V badge as well.
Vavaram for sure, maybe a Vector tune if i can swing it and not get caught by the wife but i really want to put some axle-back exhaust on. The car is just to quiet. It needs to sound like a V8! My mom's Denali sounds better but not for long. I think i want to do the vavaram and the exhaust 1st then get the tune that way i don't have to adjust the tune because of new toys.
Maybe if we send the president a link to this site he would see that WE are the people that are stimulating the economy! The banks are just hoarding the money, give it to us and let us spend it! If i was president there would be MODS for ALL!

My quote back in December
Stainless Works LT's, offroad x-pipe, and axleback - Check
Currently at Vector for Stage II and 3200 Yank - Check
Vararam - Check
HSV GTS wheels - Check
Tint, Smoked taillights, Dvd player, Aeroforce gauges - Check
The Gts fenders will probably be in the next couple of months. The Gts front end might not be worth the money to me anymore. Drag radials or slicks jumped up the list big time.

You really want to know?
I thought about it all day today. I was seriously considering selling this car and ordering a Camaro 2SS with the RS package. But i decided that it would just be stupid. I have all this money wrapped up in the car as it is and i would just be taking a huge hit.
So i came up with an executive decision tonight on my drive home from detroit. Instead of 3.27 and porting the heads which i originally planned on doing after hitting 11s i said fuck it, im going to supercharge and that will be the last mod i do to the car. I know the trans won't hold for long without TQM.
So my plan to fix that... 2 tunes written. One for the track and one for street driving.
Even at the track it will still have TQM on just reduced. On the street full TQM and and prolly have the ECM set to pull timing.

Well I'm tardy to this party but here goes, nothing too crazy here:
1) SuperChips Cortex ECM Tune
2) Adding the Atari Gauges with the screen update (makes it go faster)
3) 35% Window Tint (makes it go faster)
4) CAI, haven't decided if I'm going CAI or OTR, leaning toward Vararam with everthing I've read
5) Custom H-pipe and resonators deleted
6) Vauxhall or Holden center caps for the wheels (makes it go faster)
7) By the fall get a set of 18" rims so I can put on some "winter" tires for the cold months, and a pair of drag radials for the summer
8) Wrap the parking brake handle with leather (makes it go faster)
9) Auto dimming rear view mirror (makes it go faster)

.... This is SEATTLE lol... if it snows an inch you stay home anyway!! I'm torn I'll either try running the summers all year or go to a really good set of ultra performance all seasons

It's the New Englander in me, I fear no snow flake, just the other drivers.
I read a review in Canada of the G8, guy drove the car with the All Seasons in "5 centimeters of snow" and basically said the car was AWFUL in the white stuff.
Thankfully we don't get too much of it here. But if we ever have a December like the one we had in 2008, I'll starve to death in my own house!

I just had surgery on my hand. But in the next few weeks I will be installing SLP long tube headers, a tvs1900 Maggie, Pedders upgrades and Brembo brakes. I just need to find a local tuner in Utah to finish things up

Suspension about complete. New tires in about 10k (Will be asking for input on thise), new center speaker, GAUGES, CAI (Probably Roto-Fab), new and better brake pads and rotors, radiator cover (If there is ever one made that fits with the CAI for the V6) any new and improved suspension parts that come around. Possible rebadge. Also Photon Torpedoes and Warp drive (Can we say a Turbo or Supercharger for the V6?)

I'm just about done. Have all the parts. My clear bra is getting redone on Friday - I need to install my Volant CAI and have the Parrot Bluetooth CK3000 module installed in the center console.
I may do some billet goodies under the hood from Billet Prototypes. BMR has some interesting things in the pipeline, but I'm only a maybe.
I like the subtle mods on my G8 and my creation of the "third" G8 GT option package I jokingly call the "Safety and Driver Convenience Package."
The package includes:
1) Rear ultra-sonic parking assist
2) Auto-dimming rear view mirror with compass, OnStar and airbag warning indicator
3) DIC with volt, engine oil temperature, and engine oil voltage gauge
4) Full size spare with jack

'09: can be seen in my sig. Maybe left is upgrade my speakers which I have waiting to install.
'10: I'm not sure, probably some suspension related items. I'm going to go with more 'show' mods than 'go' until my warranty is up.
Damn this car is expensive! I've never spent so much on a single car in the first 8 months of ownership, EVER!

done for '09 now.
'10 Mods?
The splash guards that Sandy Claus brought me, the Adams Americana wax I bought too late in '09, catch can and in the interest of improving to a 12 second car, I am currently under going a weight reduction! Placing far less in the induction system (aka piehole)! Is there a calculator for that? :-)

I still need to install the Bluetooth, but now that White's Audio & Media has a work around, I'm trying to hold out and find a compatible OnStar module to install to do it right.
Only other plan is the installation of foot well lights and to install the glove box lights. I have the parts, just need to get it done!
No more mods for me after that, at least until someone else comes along with a new way to squeeze money out of me.
