I'm thinking of getting rid of the Dod crap and going conventional. I'm real concerned about the issue people have had in the past with the lifters and other problems. I don't want anything radical since I have the maggie. Just a nice set up that will make some more hp also. I'll take some recommendations with your comments.

I forgot to mention, I was interested in the ls9 cam. I know a few guys have done that and wondered if they were happy with that cam shaft?

I paid about 1000 for install and 1200 I think for the cam and kit.

I asked around awhile ago and I believe they said 1000 was pretty good so I don't know. Figure around that price

That's actually the better side of average. If you have a "friend" or know someone, you might be able to get it a little cheaper. I think last time I checked All Data it was a 16 hour job..? Even at my shops labor rate, which is relatively low as is ($70/hr) that comes to $1,120.
You can always compare to Livernois or Vector or any other large shop. Their kits installed are about $3,300 + tax on the parts.

Yea $1000 isn't bad for the labor. I had a shop offer to do mine for $750 because they were very slow and needed the business, which was an outstanding price. I ended up doing it myself though because I wanted to learn. I spent around $1250 on my full cam install kit from VMS.

i bought new west coast cylinder heads and a custom cut cam that will be compatible with the maggie. the specs are 224/236 .609"/ .607". Not going to lie....i have no freaking idea what the outcome is going to be once finished :/ The whole cam thing reeeally confuses the hell out of me!

16hr for a cam swap ROFLMAO. It is not that hard of a job on our cars. More like 4-6hrs including tuning! But yall have to cover that overhead somehow huh.

Relax. I run a tire/general repair shop, we have nothing to do with camshafts or tuning anything. I was just posting labor rates and what it technically calls for by the book. We all know that is inflated.

$3150 for non dod swap, just over $1k more when compared to ls3. Then i got well it also depends on how much of the turbo systems has to come off, so i may be doing it myself

Depending on labor rates and shop over head ect I would put 2200 on the low end not the norm..
You may occasionally run into an unbelievable deal if a shop needs to fill a spot..
I paid 3k installed/tuned

I checked prices at a number of shops with a proven track record of working on these modern V8s and I agree that ~3K total for parts, labor, and dyno tune seems to be the norm for first time swaps and deleting DOD. I'm sure you can find it for less but do you get the same level of confidence in their service. A mistake on a cam swap can have pretty serious consequences.

I think that's more realistic for a shop to do all of the work. Lower two thousands would be knowing someone. Less than fifteen hundred would be doing it yourself.

The DOD kits can cost as much as $1600 alone and then add on needed torque wrenches, balancer puller, flywheel holder tool, valve spring compressor, and various other tools and supplies and you can easily shoot past the $2K mark just doing the install yourself...If you can borrow or rent these tools, it will save you a bunch...

Getting back to your original request. My recommendation would be the Livernois Stage 1C cam. Has lots of lift, nearly zero lope, if any, and works well with a supercharger. Local friend has it and it works great with his supercharger and has great driveability. I think his G8 put down a tad over 550 to the wheels with the cam, 1900 Maggie, 1 7/8 Kooks LTs, and high flow cats...

I know a lot of the guys have done the dod delete livernois setup. Its a pretty good package and makes great hp. Mine has a mild tune in it now and makes 447, I would definetly plan on seeing more the 500 hp or not even mess with it. I really appreciate all the input and thanks again.

don't forget fuel!!!!... Do yourself a favor and don't just jump into a cam that others have or like.. Look around and talk to respected builders/tuners, ect...

BAP is the easiest if you need a little more fuel, but if you are eventually going all out, one of the other options may be better.
