So i'm about to install my converter in the next week or so.. should I also drop in a transmission cooler? If so , which do you guys recommend? if I need any additional parts etc please let me know too - would hate to go get it installed and find out i'm missing stuff when my transmission is on the floor haha

Thanks!

I used a B&M, 19200 or something as I recall.

I guess it depends on how you will be driving it... Personally I feel if you aren't in a lot of stop and go crap, or low speed driving, it isn't 100% needed. However, and additional cooler that operates AFTER the stock cooler would definitely help with the reliability, and shift quality of the trans...

I guess to sum it up:

It's not going to hurt anything, and it could possibly help, you will have the trans lines unhooked anyways, now is the time to do it :D

use a B&M 70266 its good sized, and has NPT fittings so you have a wide variety of line options.

Let me know if you want a price, I can hook ya up :D

Pretty sure this is the one I got. Lowered my average temp more than 30 degrees.

In front of the radiator.

Yes you will definitely need a trans cooler. Our cars would probably need 18000-24000 GVW. I think you choose getting a cooler that is 3-6x's the gross vehicle weight. My Mustang is 3300 lbs. empty, but I went with a 24000 GVW. Overkill....maybe.

The one I got is 19,200. It works very well.

I must confess, I never did install one in my car. I have Trans temp as on of four readouts on my DashHawk and I keep an eye on it. Even around town, I seldom got above 200 to 205, during the Summer.

In Autumn and early Winter, It would stay around 185ish.

I think for the long run, you definately need one.

I agree, I'll get one on there, but it's not life or death, "Oh teh noes!" kind of thing.

Ran pretty good at Atco without one !!!!!!

Run better with one :) Better daily driving anyway. It really made a big difference on my car and doesn't cost much. I used to worry about my trans temp, not now.

Well the good thing about a trans cooler it is a relatively simple install and it doesn't cost much to get one. The only issue I had installing mine on the stang was getting the tie wraps through the radiator and my hand inside the fan to tighten it up, but I never have to worry about my 3000 stall burning up the tranny.

Hey wreck,

you remember what size/type the fittings were on the transmission to hook up to?

thanks!

I think wreck used one that has clamp on fittings, more then likely it simply spliced into the existing cooler lines rather then replacing them...

Yes, that is correct. Simple standard installation.

For general information....What is the optimum operating temperature for our transmissions?

60-80*C i would assume

Gents, what is the size of tranny cooler lines? (i'm looking into tranny cooler offerings from B&M, OEM, etc.). Is it:

a) 5/16"
b) 3/8"

I know you spliced....just curious.

They are metric, and these fittings will pop right on in place of the stock flex lines near the crank pulley...
