I just posted this up on the GTO forum, how would you guys feel about a carbon fiber drive shaft for the G8?
Really not sure if a one-piece will work yet.. but a 2-piece is also an option.
I can do steel driveshafts no problem but I'd like to offer a carbon fiber and or an aluminum driveshaft.

I'll be getting all my OEM stuff in a few days to start my design and testing phase.

I am proud to announce that we now offer a 1-piece 3.5” carbon fiber driveshaft for the GTO.

The big carbon fiber driveshaft is what I run in the Gforce1320 GTO and is also what TrakDay runs in his GTO.
I think both our track times prove hands down that it will hold up to anything you can throw at it.

I truly believe the reason I have been able to run the #’s I have run without breaking very many parts is the shock absorption of the carbon fiber driveshaft.

Some C/F shaft facts:
· They run smooth as silk, no vibrations at all. They eliminate or dampen high speed vibrations.
· Lighter steel or aluminum, lighter than anything on the market.
· Three times the torsional strength of steel.
· Torsional spring rate allows for better tire hook-up.
· Less shock load to the differential.
· Reduces drive line breakage. (less shock load to the differential)
· A better 60 ft.
· ET’s gains of at least 1 tenth are normal.
· Dyno tested to 180mph with no vibrations.
· They will safely spin to 10,000+ rpms.
· They have been SFI tested to 2800 ft/lbs of torque.
· They have a much greater safety factor, carbon fiber will return to a fiber and not create shrapnel under the car as would aluminum or steel driveshafts.

We are also offering a 3.5” aluminum driveshaft.

The driveshafts will come ready to bolt in with a new slip yoke for the transmission and they will also come with a new 4340 billet pinion yoke and all hardware.

I’m in the process of getting the billet pinion yokes made. I don’t believe in running adapter rings if you don’t have to.

Estimated Pricing will be:
$1149. for the Carbon Fiber
$749. for the aluminum

This is the shaft I’ve been running in my GTO for over a year now. Yea, it stays that clean.. dirt doesn’t stick to c/f.

I believe there was an issue with the fuel tank being in the way that is perventing a one-piece, though it would be nice, and probably a helluva lot stonger.

Great but too pricey for me until I really feel the need. I'd go aluminum at this point.

It's a real tight fit on the GTO but with a few tweaks the 3.5" fits. We'll have to take a real good look to see it can be done.

I agree, c/f is not cheap and will probably not be an option for some.
The prices above are for a one piece so we'll have to see how it works out for a 2 piece.

2 piece will be even more, due to the extra joint, right?

Yes.

That's what I was afraid of.

I'll be designing a new pinion flange so you wont have to use an adapter.
I've used the adapters and I'm no fan of them.
I'll probably be looking for one of the faster cars on here to do some testing for me, the local G8's are not real fast (sorry guys :))

Mine will be getting much faster very soon :)

Please post the weight savings for a G8GT, comparing stock with
aluminum and CF.

Will do. I should get my stock G8 shaft any day now.

These DSs are second to none in my opinion. My GTO turns 7500RPMs on the way down the track and cuts 1.39 60fts. I would say this piece is up to teh task. And when i drive the car on the highway, yes it is street legal, I get no vibration!

The OEM's use them all the time in everything from trucks to sports cars, they are about as good as it gets in driveshaft technology.

You start modding that G8 yet? :nah:

Did the carbon fiber driveshaft ever get anywhere?

:( I don't feel comfortable putting down 600+ on the stocker.

Im definitely interested in the carbon fiber driveshaft if it will save a good amount of weight and fit easily..

this is a question for all you guys try to help me out, i am consern about my rearend and driveshaft, my gxp is all full bolt on with stall but i want to spray nos should a 175 shot be ok for driveshaft and rearend or what do you guys recommend of whats the tops of shooting nos

I'm about done designing the half shafts, once I'm done with those I'll jump on the carbon fiber driveshafts.

Thanks
Chris

Can you give us an idea on lead time and a ballpark on cost?

No date yet on the driveshafts but price should be in line with our GTO shafts, they are $1299. and come with a billet pinion yoke to replace all the rubber isolators that tend to vibrate.
As far as the half shafts, I should have my first set ready for testing in 3-4 weeks.
They will be some really trick pieces, bolt together inner and outer stubs and all 300m.

Since the Camaro will be made in numbers that will boggle the mind, have you looked at how hard it would be to adapt a Camaro rear to the G8 chassis?

The Camaros will get many choices in gearing and stronger LSDs, where the G8 has almost none.

If the Camaro diff will bolt into the G8 sub-frame, all we would need is your half-shafts with G8 stubs on the outer end and Camaro stubs on the inner end. That and your driveshaft with the Camaro diff yoke.

I would be interested in a carbonfiber driveshaft. I had one in my SS and it was great. Handled 600rwhp with no problem. They are expensive but definately worth it.
