I'm considering my options on this car, and now that my wife is going back to work after taking time off for another baby, I'll have more descresionary income at my disposal. I'm considering putting in a cam, but I do like the fact that I get 25+ mpg hwy, I do travel a little bit.
What kind of average fuel economy are guys getting after a non DOD cam swap?
I don't want to end up with the ratings that the GXP has, other wise I'd just trade in for the LS3.
On the other hand, I may just procharge or TT it and be done.

if i remember correctly Manosteel was one of the first to go with a non DOD cam, and i think he lost 3 or 4 mpg

Yes, I have lost about 4MPG over all. But I have yet to just take it easy when I drive it. Every where I go is flat in it lol.

If you drive it pretty hard, you will hardly notice a difference, it is when you are at low cruising speeds that you do not have to apply nuch throttle where it will change the gas mileage mostly. Our 228/240 cam package (which is what MANOFSTEEL69 has)that gets rid of DOD still gets over 20 mpg in highway driving. A cam upgrade is going to change your gas mileage no matter what anyway.
By the way Jay, I shipped out your OTR intake today :)

I haven't put in a cam yet but I do have DoD turned off with a vector tune. I get 24 mpg on the highway.

So the DOD does work, but it really shines on the hwy. With the amount of hwy driving I do, I would keep it.
Maybe I'll do the DOD low lift cam and a procharger.
Thanks to all who responded.

It shines on the highway depending how fast you are going, how much wind there is going in a certain direction, how much of an incline or decline you are traveling on, etc. In a nutshell, you can basically call it controlled on and off based on engine load. Many variances.

I live in the mountains of Ne. Pa.
The DoD is hardly ever on for me.

I can understand if your in an area where it never comes on. I've seen the program for the DOD system. There is a 2 page list of parameters which must be correct for it to kick on. If one is off, it will stay on 8 cylinders. Mike@NewEra is right though, it does shine on the highway.
Here in New Orleans, the closest thing we have to a hill is the overpass. Other than that, it pretty much stays on when cruising, so I want too keep it.
I can see it's easier to give up if you never use it.

I use to use my G8 for travel with in the mid west. I was getting some great gas mileage numbers. I didn't like the fact that I had put 17k miles on her in less than 6 months.
When Winter came it was a good reason the buy the Siverado since I didn't want salt on my G8.
Now that the G8 is an evening/weekend car, I'll be replacing the cam. Which one is not decided yet.
BTW the truck gets less than 18 mpg so for me, AFM is moot now.

I dont' get anywhere near the mileage I see others talking about, but around Birmingham it is quite hilly. It doesn't want to stay in 4-cyl mode but for a few seconds at a time.

If you time your petal movements right you can play a tune with the DOD.... at least that's what my son said just before he hit me when we were heading to Key West...
At 11K with MagnaFlows and H-pipe, it is getting annoying. Have heard rumors of backseat girls getting excited though......

I also have a non-DOD cam. I lost a 2mpgon the highway but almost 6-7 in town. Not really sure why the in town was so much more drastic. However, whereas I used to get my peak mpg at 70 I now get it around 75 or so. Oh, and mine is the same as MANOSTEEL's
