View Full Version : Saw prototype G8/Caprice/Impala in Rochester MI yesterday

Parked at Lifetime Fitness. Had masking on front and rear and all badges were removed or taped over, but was obviously the new Chevy G8 for US. Had lots of Camaro styling, including the SS 20 inch rims, and Camaro speedo and tach housings. Steering wheel had scroll wheels with many more buttons. Interior overall was much nicer than G8, with more of a Cadillac-ish center stack and updated center console. Exterior styling was crisper, tauter, with more defined feature lines on the sides.

The car I saw looked production ready - none of the "half-done" look of early stage prototypes. Overall looked very well done. Sadly, made my Stryker blue GT feel a little dated...

You've described a 2013 Chevy Malibu perfectly. Camaro stypling, larger rims, Camaro speedo and tach style instrumetnation, scroll wheels with more buttons, updated center console. Sounds more like you saw the 2013 'bu.

Good call!!!! Thats exactly what I was going to say!!!! The new Malibu looks awesome in my opinion.... I saw a early prototype at the Hamtramack plant in Detroit... (the overflow plant for this car)...

If I can wait that long, this is the car I am going to buy....

No more 6-banger in the 2013 'bu. Word is three power plants, the 2.4L, the 2.4L mild-hybrid, and a yet to be name turbo four. One can hope/dream/pray that is the 2.0L DI turbo 4 as it can easily and inexpensively be tweaked to 300 HP/325 TQ at the crank with only a premium fuel requirement.

It is going to be FWD.

Didn't have my camera or phone to take pics. Turns out it was a '13 Malibu - a quick search on 2013 Malibu turned up pics of exactly what I saw...

It actually doesn't suck. It looks great in person. I wasn't sure of the rear end styling at first and I had my doubts until I looked at the press release/other items but man does it look good. It goes above and beyond what the current Malibu is (and that is a nice car in itself).

Easily mistaken for something like a G8 with the covers on. I think people will be pleasantly surprised. I plan to take a look at one (or a Cruze) myself.

It looks like it will be a very nice car. Not one that I would ever buy, but still, I think it looks good and should be very competitive in its segment.

A car that size needs a V8. An SS version to keep with the Chevy theme with a V8.

The key word there is "looks." That car is total weak sauce. If it can be mistaken for a G8, which is a big car, then a 2.4L 4 banger is going to struggle to kept the car from being rearended when it pulls into 50+mph traffic.

Actually the new malibu is very nice.... inside and out.... rides nice, decent power.... (with all things considered... not everyone in the world is looking for a bat out of hell.... very comparable with other sedans for power....)... this will be a winner for GM no doubt!!! there will be doubters but it will suprise many many people.... best sedan GM put out in along time.... (considering fuel economy, price, looks, costs, etc...) in my opinion.... and until you sit, drive one, or see it first hand..... your opinion has no base....

OK 4 cylinder turbo all-wheel drive with a 6 spd MT. Oh that was going to be the Regal. I like the looks of the Malibu. In fact, it looks better than anything from the Asian market. But the front Chevy emblem would be the first thing to go.

If that's true, source a bigger turbo or take the taps off the current one and you have a quick little car!
