Hey guys. I am trying to think about what I am going to do as far as a rear diff goes. Nothing is broken on my yet I just want to upgrade it before it does. I hear that people are having problem with the 3.45's on a maggie application with hooking up. So I was thinking taking the middle ground between stock and 3.45s and going with the 3.27s. That way hopefully fuel economy isn't effected as much, while still getting a little boost in performance. Then a pair of 750hp axles to pair with this camaro diff.
What do you guys think?
Thanks!

I love my 3.45s, but with the low-end torque from the Maggie traction is difficult. If your goal is drag racing... or launching from a stop in 1st gear with anything but DRs... then the 3.45s are probably too tall. My goal isn't drag racing, and the 3.45s put me right in my power band in the twisties, so I wouldn't have done it any other way. I don't really know if it would be worth it to go through the hassle (and the money) to just go from a 2.92 to a 3.27

PS - The GForce Axles work great with the Camaro diff.

Yeah I know what you mean about the gains from 2.92s to 3.27s being minimal. Im not really doing the diff for performance gain. I mean, a slight one would be nice, but I am kind of looking for the camaro diff MORE for the fact of being stronger and a thicker more sturdy case that can handle more power. Would a small gain be an added bonus, sure. But the gains just aren't the 100% reason why I want it. 3.45s would defiantly be the max that I would go, but I find myself at stop lights always next to Ferrari's, Porsche's, Lamborghini's, r8's, etc etc etc.. So I cant sit there and not even put up a fight since I would just be smoking my tires. Plus I am sure that with a blower 3.27s would be pretty nice. Defiantly a bigger hp gain with FI engines with that small of a gear change, at least compared to N/a engines I would think.
Drag radials would be fun every day. But I dont see that happening. I was looking at the nitto nt05 for my rear rubbers next maybe. I wonder how sketchy those would be in the rain. Or Maybe toyo proxes R888's.

I wish I'd done the 3.27's, I think mileage would have been better and its still a enough difference with the maggie to make a big difference. I've sold several sets of the Nt05's to some guys that autocross and man they love them. No matter what tire you put on the back you are not gonna be able to hook on the street and the lower the gear you go with the maggie its gonna make it worse, I know I'm there right now. I'd do the 3.27 if I were you, but its your check book and you have to ultimately make the decision. Good luck

I'm just throwing this out there. Would it be better to just do the 750 axles, beef up the stock rear end (not sure if there is a way to do that, tru-trac maybe), and use a shorter tire (which changes your gear ratio)? I've read that using the GTO 17" rims with 275/40/17 DR's gives you a 3.2x gears ratio.

That is a good point... If the gears are just a preventative thing, I'd probably be trying to reduce wheel hop as much as I could first (as that kills times and parts). The axles will help there, but you could also do some suspension upgrades.

When I had my maiggie... I loved my 3.27, I noticed a huge difference in feel in them compared to the 3.27 and overall good package.. good luck in your decision!

The 3.27 is still a huge upgrade over the stock 2.92. I dont have a Maggie but with my cam the 3.27 gears are way better. Traction is still difficult but is managable if I pedal it in first and second. Plus the gas mileage should be slightly better with the 3.27s. At 70mph I am at exactly 2000rpms

Yes, wheel hop is my huge concern also. I'm going to be doing the rear lower control arms, trailing arms, and toe rod ends. With that along with the 750 axles I think that I will be out of the wheel hop. God I hope so anyways. That should really beef up the rear suspension.

I was thinking about this too. But I also dont know what it takes or what it costs to upgrade. I would assume though that just buying a separate diff and doing a whole swap of the unit would actually be cheaper than just building the stock one. On top of im really looking for that thicker, more sturdy diff case that comes with the camaro.
Either that, or I was thinking about waiting until the ZL1 rear end were to come available to us. Because that will be a direct bolt up, but I dont know what gears are coming with that..

I have had zero hop since I beefed-up the rear suspension, just spinning on street tires. I've not run with DR's yet, but I don't anticipate a problem with hop.

Yup, I am basically looking for your exact rear set up. except with 3.27s. Everything else exactly the same. We defiantly need more updates on yours when you take it to the track. And also what drag set up are you using? Because I know the spohn has a couple different lower control arms. And one of them wont let you run smaller than a 18" wheel unless you buy the drag version. Do you have pics of your drag set up?

That I can do, but I don't think it will be what you are after...

Drag setup? :uhm:
I'm not planning on doing much (if any) more drag racing with my car. My setup if for Auto X and Track Days. The Spohn LCA that I have are the Pro-Touring version w/Poly bushings... Unless you plan on using the 1" drop in the LCAs, I don't see much reason not to get the Pro-Drag version. I can't run anything smaller than 18" wheels, but that's because they wouldn't fit over my brakes. I went with the Pro-Touring version since the ability to drop at the LCA gives me additional suspension adjustments.
Do you have pics of your set up?

T thats a nice set up. I only have the bmr lower control arms. Mine rarely wheel hops and never with the drs'. I have noticed mine does wheel hop more then it ever did with the 2.92's. It really all depends on the pavement your on also.
