GFORCE1320 (https://www.gforce1320.com/) was looking for a set of G8 axles to copy so he could produce a set that will take more stress than the stock axles.

I offered mine for the cause. ;)

Since I'm doing some bushing replacement, it was the perfect time to pull it apart.

Soon we will have an option for a better quality axle and we won't have to worry about tearing up our stuff.

note to me: short goes to passenger side

How tough was the removal?

How tough was the removal?

Not terrible. I couldn't get the axle out of the hub with out removing the hub/knuckle completely from the car.

You will need:
1/2" drive breaker bar
1/2" drive ratchet
36mm socket
18mm sockets-deep and short
18mm wrench
12mm wrench
jack
2-jackstands
hammer
drift
small pry bar

Good to have:
ratchet assembly for breaker bar

Getting the axle out of the hub was the biggest bitch. It takes a bit of hammering. Do NOT hammer directly on the stub.

PS
A lift and an extra set of hands would have been better. ;)

If Chris does as good of job with the G8 as he has done with the GTO then we will
have some very strong parts for the backs of these cars for sure..
Shoot he wanted my car to play with for a week but I told him that I would need
his gto in return for my driver LOL

You mean a 9sec GTO is not a loaner car? WTF! LOL

LOL.. loaner car? I must have missed that, LOL

I'm sure the half shaft I make for the G8 will be plenty strong.
Nobody has ever broken one of my Level 2 300m half shafts.
These are the ones I run deep into the 9's on and they will be real similar to what I'll build for you guys.
The idea is to keep everything as similar as possible to keep the prices down.

Thanks
Chris

Just a question, what do you launch the GTO at. I ask only because the G8 is heavy and I was curious.

I have a Neil Chance 9" 4500 rpm converter that will foot brake stall to 3800.
I most always just foot brake it to 3800 and then my nitrous kicks in at wot at 10-20% off the line and it ramps it all in with 1 to 1.5 seconds depending on track prep.
So I'm putting down at least 800-850 in the first 10-20 feet.
That running the fist stage, I will be running both stages this spring and spraying 500.
The nice thing about running an IRS going this fast is I just mash the gas and drive. No wheelies, nothing, it just goes straight as an arrow.

That was my guess. So I should be fine with a 3600 stall. Now lets just see how the axles and diff feel abbout it! lol

On the t-brake it stalls to 5500. I'll probably put a 2 step on it and do some 4500-5000 nitrous launches off the t-brake this spring.

I see 8 sec passes with ease using that technique.

I'm getting worried about the stock diff.. I'll probably race on our protype 9" this next year and retire the stock diff, I think I've proved a point by going 9.40's on a bone stock diff.

Yeah I think you proved your point. I am the same way, once you go so far why push it and hurt the car or not make the finals when you kinda knew that you had pushed it to the breaking point.

What's the weak link in the current IRS? Is it the gears, half shafts or the IRS casing?

I'm going to guess it's going to be the half shafts but we wont really know until people start tearing stuff up.

I have my machine shop working on a batch of 300m axles for the G8.
They will be larger in Diameter than the OEM axles.
