I'm on my second round of antibiotics for a sinus infection. The first round was a Z0-pack. This time I'm on Levaquin. I get really nauseous a couple of hours after taking it. Historically, they have not bothered me but this time seems to be kicking my butt.

Does anyone else get bothered by antibiotics?

They can cause nausea. Check the side effects it would probably be there. This is due to the anti-biotic's killing some of the good bacteria while it attacks the bad.

Well, I read the label and it didn't say anything about nausea but it did say take 2 hours before an antacid and vitamin. This morning I took Nexium, and a vitamin with my antibiotic. I'll not be doing that tomorrow.

Yes, Z-pack sure does, usually goes away the 2nd day though.

I'm not sure, but I DO know that a lack of antibiotics can, and will cause the clap! :p

Check with your doctor if your symptoms persist or worsen. Levaquin is a strong antibiotic and is notorious for causing nausea but it works. The reason you are not supposed to take an antacid or Nexium is that it can prevent the antibiotic from being fully absorbed. I reiterate to contact your provider if you have any abdominal pain, vomiting, and/or diarrhea. Hope this helps!

Yeah Levaquin is strong, in one study about 4.3% people had to stop taking it because of nausea or vomiting. It's good for resistant strains of certain bacterias. There 's a Pt in my place on I think 500mg once per day right now and it doesn't seem to bother him. I reiterate N2G8GXP's advice, if you get a lot of nausea and vomiting I'd call your MD.

Well, he gave me Levaquin because my sinus infection beat amoxicylin (sp?) and a z-pack. I haven't actually vomited yet but it sucks to feel like you are on the verge for the ENTIRE DAY!!

Make sure you eat just before taking the pills.

I always do 2 pieces of toast and a glass of room temp water and then take them. It eliminates about 99% of the "feel like ass" feelings.

Yeah, biotics mess up my stomach too... :(

I didn't read that warning about antacids and took one once.... HOLY CRAP was I in pain! Severe stomach cramps....

Hope you get better soon man. I had sinus issues about a month ago... was on the Zpack, didn't work, put me on Levaquin too. It worked a lot better, but I am still occasionally coughing stuff up!

Levaquin is a very powerful anti-body. It comes with tons of disclosures. I take it when I am sick so my asthma does not kick up.

My skin gets hot and turns red when I take it. Just read the literature it comes with from the pharmacy.

It is powerful and works very well. :puke: But can give you dizziness and nausea.
