G8 Pinouts for Harnesses(Radio, Fact. Amp, accessory voltage, etc.)

Here is a chart that I used to splice into the factory stereo signal. *It should help out with the adding of aftermarket stereo systems.

I suggest a remote signal switch from your local car stereo shop to use for the remote wire.

Also if you need to catch a 12 volt accessory to turn on the amp there is a small white connected directly above the factory amp with three wires in it. I don't remember which one is the accessory but you can check it with a volt meter and get it right there in the trunk.

Use this thread to add more info as it becomes available. For now, here are the pinouts I've accumulated for the radio, factory amp, and a picture of the harness in the trunk above the factory amp with the wire color and description on the picture. This white plug is used to get an accessory 12V(aka remote turn on wire). Hope this helps, feel free to add any other documents or images you have related to G8 wiring.

The Brown and Blue wire is accessory. It is +12V only when the key is in the ignition and turned forward. The car doesn't have to be cranked just turned to the first forward position for this wire to be hot. It works good as a turn-on wire. The only thing is that when you kill the car and take the key out your radio stays on until you open the door...this wire loses +12V as soon as you cut the key off and remove it.

When I was into the stereo stuff I had Sound Stream 10" subs and amps (when they made good stuff) and those 10's were AWESOME! Probably one of the best in the mid 90's IMO.

A good amplifier should power down silently and immediately when the remote turn on voltage goes to 0. I haven't decided on what sub configuration to do in the trunk yet. I'm thinking a pair of L7 8's in a dual reflex series tuned bandpass, a single 10'' CVX in the same enclosure type, or possibly 2 CVX 10's in a single reflex bandpass. It'll take a little trial and error but should sound really good when I'm done...

Wait a minute, "rear object sensing module?"

Does the G8 have a back up assist option or is this something only those in other parts of the world get? Is this plug and play if it is an option seeing how the pigtail is there?

I tapped into the cigarette lighter socket wire by the radio for my remote turn on lead. Amps stay on with radio w/ key out! Everything off with door open.

Also it is important to know that the rear speaker wires connected at the trunk mounted amp is the hi-level (speaker level) FEED to the amplifier. The trunk amp does not power the rear door speakers, just the rear deck subwoofers.

Where is the easiest place to get a feed for dash lights, only on when lights come on. I want to add a small LED in the console cubby, but only one when the dash is lite at night.

So by disconnecting the feed from the rear doors you eliminate the deck. Wouldn't you jus be able to disconnect the output from the amp for the rear doors and jus get your leads for the door from the back of the radio? I'm trying to run a four channel but only on the doors which are components but sence I got a factory amp I jus wanna keep it hooked up for the bass.

Thank you for the reference information about the amplifier wiring diagram. Question, why wouldn't you use the stock wiring harness exclusively to install an aftermarket amplifier? I have replaced all my speakers in my 09 G8 GT, including the sub woofers. I have lost a channel on the stock amplifier. If I have all the wires needed to the stock amplifier from the head unit, why wouldn't I use them? Why would I run all new wires to the head unit? The stock amplifier has all the speakers wired to it, Has a 12 volt source for power, Ground, My new amp has high inputs eliminating any need for RCA's. It seems simple to use the existing harness. Why wouldn't I want to is my question to you?

So the amp in the trunk isn't the only amp? If so than the head unit powers the front tweeters, center dash speaker, and the rear door speakers? Or more than one amp? I have the premium stereo system. I appreciate other help.

There is only one amp and it only receives the signal split from the rear door speakers, and it only powers the subs. The headunit powers all the door and dash speakers. If you don't have subs, you don't have any amp.
