Synthetic Oil Deals?

So I was going to buy the Royal Purple deal that they had on Pace Performance, but apparently it doesn't exist anymore. Is there any other deals out there for 9 qts and a filter? I liked that deal!

Get the oil third from the top on the chart below (0W-40). It has the most zinc anti wear additive and is approved by Mercedes, BMW, Volkswagen/Audi, and Dodge Viper. G8 oil runs near 220 F and a 40 weight is not too heavy.

0W oils also provide the best engine protection during warm-up. I have an oil temperature gauge and it takes over 5 miles of driving before the oil is over 170 degrees F. Some car manufacturers (Mercedes is one) limit engine rpm in the engine computer until the oil is above 170 F. Basically because it is too thick until it is hot.

there is no reason for a 0w oil in the US unless you live near the Canadian boarder. A 5w is good protection down to well below freezing. Oils with large viscosity differences when cold/hot tend to shear faster as well. that said lots of people use the europoean 0-40 in the B5 S4 community, as well as the 0w-30 German green castrol, they also blow lots of turbochargers before/just after 100k. Knowing what I've learned on bobistheoilguy and not knowing if a 30w is necessary for the DOD to work correctly I would stick with a good 5w-30. unless you mash the pedal and go WOT on your drive to work everyday, a 30w is great protection. If you want to be very specific, some 40w and 30w oils bearly meet the viscosity requirements of those weight when new, and shear to 30-20w after a few thousand miles anyway. I personally would never use a mobil product, sans the 0-40, and that's a stretch, there are plenty of better alternatives.

I would stay with the 5w-30 as reccomended, or else the AFM will bang and be quite noticable, not sure what happens if the AFM is turned off and you use other viscosity oil, but why mess, a lot of research went into GM's decision on what oil to use.

High zinc content ruins catalytic convertors. Hence the reason the amounts have dwindled... If you want high zinc content, look at Diesel oils. Rotella 5W40 Synthetic for example. MUCH higher than "Energy Conserving" oils.

Here we go on the oil again. In terms of deals, I get Mobil 1 Synthetic 5W-30 at my local Costco whenever they have it on coupon. You can get a 6 pk for $32 - $9 coupon = $23. Like a sore pecker, pretty hard to beat.

The problem with diesel oils for our cars is that the formulations are made to reduce acids formed from diesel, and hence they have very high ash content. Rotella and Delvac are great oils, but not really intended or in their proper element in our gasoline engines. I've got Amsoil 0W30 but I agree when it is cold I get piston slap and noisy lifters, but I drive easy until the temp gauge is at least halfway up (about 77-80*C) and everything quiets down. I don't have any issue using diesel oil in race car engines, but in a daily driver it's just not ideally formulated for everyday gasoline usage.

Yeah... I was in NO way recommending anyone use it. Just the opposite actually.

I use Rotella T 5W40 in both of my motorcycles. The wet transmissions LOVE the zinc, and I have no cats. Just two dogs... lol

around here Oriely has Royal Purple 5-30 in gallon jugs for 35 and 5 gt Mobil jugs for 30. I see no reason not to use Mobil 1 5-30 in it.

Gregs price above is AWESOME as long as shipping isn't horrendous. I paid 97 bucks and some change for 9 quarts of the 15,000 mile Mobil 1 and a Mobil 1 filter. I don't run it the full 15,000 miles however, and 95% of my miles are highway.
