View Full Version : Airbag sensor and module in the dash?

My airbag fault light came on last week and the dealer has ordered two parts:
92225595 Module
92220398 Sensor
Will either of these require taking the dash apart? If so, I need to probably undo some of my HSV gauge wiring so they don't screw it up when the take the dash panels off.

I am sure that someone who can look up the PNs will be able to give you a better answer but these could be in the seat.

I know theres one under the center console toward the back. Not sure if thats the whole module or just the roll/axis sensors.

I called the service tech. He says both parts are in the passenger seat. One is the weight sensor and the other is the associated module.

I've got an airbag fault. Got two codes B0081 and U0170. Any way to determine if I need the 'Module' or the 'Sensor' or both. At 300+ dollars each, I'd like to know I was ordering the right part the first time.
Thanks

I never got any codes from the dealer, so I don't know if you've got the same problem or not.

I had this replaced in my car a few months ago. Light just came on and it was a whole module that needed replacing. At my expense.
Good luck!

Update: I replaced only the Module: 92225595 and NOT the sensor. This resolved the U0170 code. B0081 was still present. However then I got a new DTC code indicating that the module had to be calibrated/re-zeroed. This was somewhat expected because the service guide describes the Re-zeroing procedure. It has to be peformed at the dealer.
So took it to the dealer and paid for 30 minutes of labor for the rezeroing. Now all codes are gone. So for roughly 375 bucks, I purchased the module myself, changed it out and had the dealer rezero it. Much cheaper than what many people are paying to have the dealer change out the Module AND the sensor.
The module can be changed, by removing the seat and turning it upside down. The seat does NOT need to be disassembled. Disassembly is when you start to get into excessive labor costs.

How difficult was it to remove the seat. I'm going to order 92225595 today and then install myself. I'll then bring to the dealer to reprogram. Any 'gotchas' with getting the seat out? Thanks.

Seat was a little different design from what I was use to. 1st remove the plastic covers on the floor. Then seat has two bolts at the floor on the back.
Disconnect the seat belt with a Torx screw and remove the 5 or so electrical connectors. They all have different sorts of 'locks' on them. So you remove the lock first and/or release the catch. Then the connector pulls apart easily. If you have to pull hard, then its not released properly. To actually get the seat out, I had to lay the seat back all the way down flat, and then get in the back seat and lift the back of the seat forward. It will pivot up in the front.

Update - I replaced the module and the dealer reprogrammed the car. All is well now. Saved $400 by doing it myself. Total was a $99 dealer diagnostic fee, $271 for the part (sourced from a 3rd party) and $75 for dealer to reprogram. Installing the part took maybe 30-40 minutes which is very simple. If I had to do it again, I could probably do it in 20 as I now know how the connectors come apart and how the module gets removed. I'm just hoping this new module does not fail any time soon.

Thanks for the tutorial. Just ordered the module for myself. Will report back on if it fixes it or if I need the sensor too.
Also, AND I WOULD RECOMMEND EVERYONE DO THIS...filed a complaint with the National Highway Transportation Security Administration (nhtsa.gov) at this address https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/ivoq/
If you're looking for what to write you can always go and copy one of the complaints that have been submitted on this issue already:

UPDATE- Got a used module for $45, installed myself and used my local clubs Tech II to reprogram and now all is good. Best price I could find for a new one would have been Greg and Pace.
Bottom line is that if your decent at doing your own work, you can save big money. Thanks to the above guys for helping pave the way in this repair.
