I saw this short LS3 short block:

The transplant idea came up. I ran this past Crazy Paul (HSV-GTS-300):

Crazy Paul,
Here is a LS3 427 short block
http://paceperformance.com/index.asp...&ProdID=242743
how many of the stock L76 parts can be used on this block?
I believe the heads and intake will work.

This might be a good posting for the board.
I like the new HSV 427...Here's the possible beginnings of the conversion.

Thank you as always for your kind attention. The intake you already have is the LS3 intake. The heads you already have are L92 heads....with the only difference to LS3 being the material and construction method used for the 8 intake valves.
The above will all bolt straight on to the LS3 block.
[If you were to select a decent camshaft then you'd need to upgrade the valve springs and pushrods accordingly]

You'd need to select the 58x reluctor option on that Pace page.

L76 parts that wont work on the stroker LS3 are....
a)the lifter oil manifold assembly. Replace that with an LS2/3 style flat valley plate.
b) DOD lifters and camshaft.
c) The L76 cam gear is single bolt with 4 timing lumps, if you're using a non GM cam in the new block (Comp or similar) you'll need a 3 bolt..4 timing lump cam gear.
d) I'd also change out the oil pump from the high volume DOD pump back to a standard volume LS2/LS3 style pump.
e) Also change the brown cam chain tensioner to the black LS2 style cam chain damper.
f) Change to LS2 lifter guides.

Valley plate = about $110
LS2/7 lifters = about $130, custom cam = about $400
3 bolt/4 lump cam gear = $20. 3 cam bolts $10.
Oil pump $120
Chain damper $15
Set of LS2 lifter guides 4 x $8

Options: (JP double roller timing set 07+LS2 $135, delete the $20 camgear if you buy this)
Patriot Gold dual valve springs .650" lift $250
Comp pushrods $120

I saw that.

It's the DOD delete + cam and this short block.

Approx $6K.

It's A G8!

So by replacing the shortblock for a 427 and the items stated above, this is a straight foward swap right? Trans will bolt up right? What kind of power increase is expected?

Yes, straight swap, everything bolts up. I don't know what the power increase would be. Either Andy from Livernois or Crazy Paul from OZ could probably give an informed answer to that question.

just the added displacement would add approx 30-60 hp compared to a similarly modded 6.0. the only thing I dont like is to do a 427 you would need a 4.100 stroke crankshaft, this brings the piston out of the bottom of the bore, and they are usually pretty noisy and shortlived compared to a 413 LS3 build using a 4" stroke crank... also it would be NA only as the compression height of the piston is pretty small, leaving little room for a good ring package...

I feel that if you want a 427 get a 7.0. If you want to use a LS3 I wouldnt go more than 413 as Andy suggested.

Yup if you do a search over at ls1tech.com you'll see results around 500-530rwhp for 427 LS3's, with L92 heads, as mentioned the 4.100" stroke is not ideal.
