IDK if you would consider it mid-sized, but the GMC Terrain is an awesome vehicle. Rides great, fit and finish is awesome, and it looks good inside an out.

I agree they are nice but are a little more then what we want to spend. I am looking for something under 20K used.

I think it might be kinda hard to find a nice 2yr old or newer mid size SUV for under $20k right now.

Mid size there might not be anything for 20k or below between 2008-2010 unless they have some high miles on it or their beat to hell.

If you go smaller like an Chevy Equinox you might be in good shape.
Do you prefer American or don't mind if its foreign? If you don't care there is a lot of options for quality compact SUVs

my wife has a Torrent. I am not sure what they go for used, but she likes it and it is a nice vehicle. We bought it new and has a little over 50k on it with no issues. It is a Pontiac also :)

It might be a little bigger than you want, but you might find a nice Explorer in that price range. I just sold mine, but when I bought it, i paid $20k and it was 2 years old, fully loaded with 38,000 miles on the odo.

Not the slickest around, but, probably falls in your price range is the Buick Rendezvous. The wife and I bought a new '02 and have loved it. If you check out the various consumer surveys they will usually rank them low in reliability, but, we have 138k on the odometer with only routine repairs done. I would get in it today and drive to Florida. The freakiest part is we got almost 90k out of the factory front brakes and just under 100k on the rears! I'm sure GM fixed that problem. LOL

Talk to Chris White. The Terrain is a very nice vehicle. I sat in one at Sellers. The 4 cyl get 32 mpg hiway. Better than anay other small SUV. I know you said mid-size, but the Terrain is very roomy. Chris may know of a dealer demo that could go for in the low 20's.

You can get a Trailblazer for that. I liked the SS & used it's only a few grand more than a 6 cyl. All of the mid-size ones suck on gas. Edmunds has had good luck w/their long term Terrain (although they are sort of hideous looking).

Equinox or a Terrain. They are really nice and have great purchase & lease deals right now. I really enjoyed both when I was in them.

A lot of people prefer the Equinox due to the design, but the Terrain is just as nice.

I'm not pro Ford but three women where I work have a Ford Edge and they all love them. They all test drove/owned several different makes and model's and picked the Edge.

My recommendation would be a Ford Edge or the Kia Sportage. Ford Edge might be hard to find under 20K. I've had both as rental cars and was impressed by both. The Kia Sportage was actually very surprising. It had a ton of features and you can buy one new for under 20K, so a used one will just let you save that much more $$$.

Bought the wife a 2010 Edge about a year ago and we both love it. It has been a big surprise to me at how well it runs, how much capacity it has, etc etc. She has a 15 mile each way commute in traffic and gets 17-19mpg average on a tank. We make frequent trips up to Dallas (about a 3 hour drive) and consistently get 24-27mpg out of it then. I know the EPA rates them lower, but I've done the math and checked multiple tanks and it does this well. Not the mention the more power it has than other SUV's in the same category.

Another thing to keep in mind is that with the 2011 model being completely redesigned, a lot of people want that so it makes the 07-10 less desirable. I'm sure you could find a 08-09 for under 20k with decent miles.

I've had a Terrain and a Sportage both as rentals and while they both impressed me quite a bit with features and comfort, the power just wasn't there. And not to say that the wifemobile needs power, but the Terrain's motor is SEVERELY underpowered for the size of vehicle that it is. Just my opinion but while on cruise control it was downshifting at even the slightest inclines and never could do much without a pretty big step down on the throttle.

Not a big foreign car fan but my wife had to have a Mazda CX-7 I bought it new loaded AWD leather, bose rear camera, and sunroof for around 30k, Im sure you can get one
a year or two old in the mid to low 20's, it rides and handles great feels more like a car than an SUV, and is fairly peppy it has the Mazda Speed3 turbo 2.3 averages around
18-19 24-25 hwy. When I bought it I was going to buy a Terrain but they were 5-10k more and cheaply made IMO, especially the mesh cloth seats. Any way another option for you

I think we are going to start looking a Vue and Equinox. With Saturn being dead the prices are a little less then the Equinox. I am also going to look at TBs too.

Well, I'm going to get razzed for this, but you can find a nice 2008 Saturn Relay with the 3.9 under the hood and loaded out for $12K to $14K all day long. They look SUVish, good crash test results, moderate fuel economy, can tow 3.5K out of the box. You can find an AWD3 model and basically have every option. Ya I know, it is a minivan, but it is a value priced, nice, reliable, safe, minivan that looks like a baby Suburban.

Friend of mine picked up a Red-line VUE for very very cheap last year since Saturn kicked the bucket.
Nice SUV ..IMO Looks nice with the Red-Line trim ..bigger wheels. Lowered a bit.

Just picked a used mid-sized suv on Tuesday. I was always looking for a used Duramax or suv (4runner or xc90), well not really looking to buy I came home with one. My wife and I picked up a high-mileage Volvo xc90, after getting rearended in G8 in Nov. I defently needed a safe ride other than 96 crown vic. and something to get around in the winter. The 2006 xc90 had 119k with a 2.5T AWD (has new brakes atleast on the back, new tires, tranny flushed, timming belt replaced) and ended up getting 3k off list price - so I think we got a ok price. Don't really like the mileage, but it still looks really good, just a couple small scraches, no dents, and no acidents. I just hope it makes it atleast last to 185k, volvos always known for making it to high mileage numbers and with the smaller engine I'll save the $$ in gas to put in our GT. Ended up getting a 24K maintance warranty that covers ware and tare. Just got tired of driving our G8 to our parents farms (both live back on 1+ mile gravel roads) and having to drive under 8mph plus having to spend the next day washing the pounds of mudd out from under the wheel wells.

CRV all day long... can be had for under 20K, good on gas and their resale is better than any GM SUV (I think) my wife loved hers. I know ill get flamed for not recomending an "American" SUV but the CRV is a great little SUV.

I still like the Torrent GXP. May be a little hard to find, but should be available for under 20K.

Ford Edge, Chevy Equinox, Saturn Vue, Torrent in that order. I had a 2005 Saturn Vue Redline and it was quick (Honda Powered), but it was a POS otherwise. The newer rounder Vue is MUCH nicer.

The Edge with Sync or the new one with Sync and MyTouch is AWESOME!
