View Full Version : Tranny question
Driving home from work today, I noticed the car shifting oddly. Then it got stuck in 3rd and the CEL came on. Called Onstar and I got the code - P0700, which there are a few threads on here about already.
I also noticed that driving on the highway, the car will be about 2-300 RPM higher than normal for the first couple minutes, then it will drop back to normal RPM for the speed I'm at. This only happens if the car was cold. I have only recently noticed this behaviour. I'm thinking it's the torque converter and it's probably normal, but it seems odd I've just noticed it.
I am taking the car to the dealer for issue #1 tomorrow - just wondering if the second issue might be related?

Sounds like the part of the tranny flare that a lot of people are talking about. Usually happens more often when the car is cold.
This is a dealer issue and should get taken care of also. They are going to need to keep the car to check it when its cold or they will not believe its an issue.

keep us updated
Thanks for the input. We'll see what the dealer says. Fortunately I've still got 300 km left on my warranty.

Just an FYI. I have aeroforce gauges and I monitor them regularly. What I have found is that on very cold mornings the converter will not lock up until the transmission temps get above 104* This might be why you say after the car warms up it drops back to normal. What type of ambient temps are you seeing? I dont know where Lethbridge is. If you are a Northern G8 I can promise you this is what you are seeing. I only saw this down here in Texas when we had the 10 straight days of sub 25* weather

Yup, Lethbridge is at -18 C right now, which is somewhere around 0 F. I thought it might be the torque converter but I've never noticed it before.
Still doesn't resolve the P0700 issue.
Wow, it's been nearly a month since I had this problem. Finally got the car back yesterday. They changed some solenoids and the TCM. Seems to be OK now, but the car's only done this to me once so we'll see.
The TCM swap surprised me a bit - heads up if you're having this issue and you have a tranny tune.

Interesting. I just had a P0700 and P1825 code set the other day. Started it up the next day and the CEL cleared, but left the code as pending. I cleared it and we will see what happens. And I DO have a VMS TCM tune.
