I am looking for a drag radial to run on my car everyday. I would like something around 265 or 275 and have it be the stock height. I dont want it too soft. I would like them to last. Any recommendations?
thanks

None all DRs are soft and you'll probably get 10k out of them... Better to pick a good summer performance tire for DD IMO..
No to mention the sidewall stiffness and soft rubber don't mix well for hard stopping/handling on wet or dry pavement

Yep, get an extra set of wheels for your DRs and swap them out on track day.

If you're hung up on putting them on for the summer, Toyo makes a decent drag radial. They're specific as to what sizes are available, but they hook better than a regular street tire and are at least acceptable in the rain. Not as good as a Mickey Thompson or something like that, but they're pretty good.

I like my Nitto's, and they make them in a drag setup too

This makes me think of a slightly related topic...
I have 17" gto wheels & DRs waiting for my track return...
Is it safe/ok to swap them at home and drive 80 miles to the track (and back home after)?
Or should I just do the dirty work at the track?

Yes, you can drive to Fontana with them on. They will be pretty warm when you get there. If there is a possibility of rain, put 'em in the trunk or carry your stockers with you.

I change mine at the track, takes about ten minutes. Buy you a light weight aluminum jack, jack each side up under the control arm and its an easy switch. One tire in the spare tire well and one in the trunk. They are just too expensive to run back and forth to the track. Your gonna abuse them enough in the burn out box. Now if you just go a couple times a year driving them wouldn't be the bad, but, if you make as many trips as I do and then race them it will be tough to get a season out of them. I trailer for long distance tracks and when I'm gonna be there for a few days, just easier in my opinion.

I've never ran dr's so I have no idea on which are better. I'm going to get either the bfg kdw dr's or the nittos. Not quite sure on the size just yet but they are going on a set of 18"

Check out the Toyo Proxes r888. They are a road track tire but have better wear then traditional DR. I have yet to see a DR out perform these at the drag stip. I have the 305/19s and have cut a low of 1.51

Yeah if you like spinning through the gears. a 1.9 60' is not hooking. IF you have 400rwhp or more then you should be cutting 1.7 and lower.

And if you have skinnies all 4 tires will fit in the trunk including the jack. Cecil is 46 miles each
way for me. I change all 4 tires at the track. Takes about 30 min.

I've driven 45 miles to the track on DRs and it wasn't a big issue. I've even done it on skinnies several times which is not as fun.

:) if I change em at home I can have the hubby help... If I change em at the track Julian can help.
Speaking of Julian, did he vanish?

IMO it's not too bad but you need to allow for a lot more... Stopping fast turns ect ect

Sounds like you need to tell him to go do the laundry and make you a sandwich while you change the oil, pop out a kid, and change the fuel filter - in that order. :brock:

Since I got invos have not been to the track but will post when I do. Plus there is more to life than straight line racing try autocrossing and being in a dd and keeping up with track only cars in the same class!

I agree completely, but there are NO DRs that you can actually use for DD. These are DD tires that are marginal at the track.

Try some reading comprehension lol. I have toyo R888 Auto cross tires on the car and they flat out love the curves as that is what they were designed for. They also happen to be a sticky enough compound to hook up 550rwhp to a 1.51 60' And these autocross tires are on my car full time and it is a DD with 35,000 miles on the car. I say that is once heck of a DD/Autocross/Drag stip/Combo right there!!

now this just cracks me up. Where did I say that 550hp is king kong power or any horse crap like that. I made a point to the OP that if he was looking for a good DD tire that will hook well on the street and the track and still get good tread life out of them then he may want to look at the TOYOS R888 Autocross tires. The point with 550rwhp and cutting a 1.51 60' on a non slick, or drag radial is a pretty big accomplishment for a Autocross tire. So get your panties out of a wad and go take your talents to South Beach like Lebron lol.

I only get to the track a few times a year. I drive the car everyday and do the occasional street racing when something.g comes up. I will have over 400 HP and almost 400 Tq I'm assuming when I get the car back. I wanted something.g that will stick on the street as well as the track. I have had the nittto invos before. I have pulled a 1.68 sixth foot in them. But on the road they spin. I may just get those, but I don't know

well i know which ones are not. hoosier drag radials. fantastic at the track. and i now change them at the track and do not use them at all on the roads.
when i had nittos they were great on the street. but were not good at the track.
and the purpose of my drag radials are at the track. if you are just running on the street nittos are not bad. ran them in the monsoons also here in tucson. i went slow and steady and all was well.

a little tom foolery never killed anyone (except a few rednecks - hey, y'all. Watch this!). Also, watch the comparisons that folks are posting where they may be using a much wider tire (a 305 vs. a 275). A tire that has an inch more width should damn well be better at the track. Problem is, not all of us can fit a 305 tire...I would be interested in side by side comparo of track tires of equal width.

Nitto 555R drag radials are great for every day i ran them as a daily tire for 10 years. i've got more life out of them then a reg tire due to they won't spin were the reg tire will. You maintain Great hard braking and handling. and they are pretty good in the rain but best keep a good set on the front just to help move the water for them. I have also daily drove on MT ET streets only bad thing there is if it rains you pretty mush have to stop driving lol. And as far as MT drag radials they are way softer then nitto 555R drag radials but don't last as long however i drove all the way from philadelphia, Ms to Galveston, Tx and back several times on one set. so they aren't that bad ether.
Well there is the facts now its on you. pick one and enjoy.
I have been running the BFGoodrich KDW NT and i love them i'll keep running them on the front but for the rear with my new mods i'll be running the 285/40R18 Nitto 555R DR year round to and from texas. If BFGoodrich would make the KDW NT in a tread rating of 100 i would run that heck if they had a rating of 200 i'd at least try a set That tire is a beast in the rain curves and braking and NICE straight line also.

I 100% disagree the Nitto 555R drag radial can easy be run year round. I have safely drove it through some very bad thunder storms and for right at a decade have ran it on the rear of my DAILY driver all year long and we get some very bad rain here. A little ice but not much. Also they are sticky a nuff with a good burnout to give you 1.5 short times. I got more miles out of them than i did any set of ZR 300 to 500 tread rating summer or winter tires.
