Paul,

Can you get the switch to replace the blank? The blank looks out of place...and if it isn't too much $, I wouldn't mind a switch I can wire for other uses....

Crazy Paul
01-17-2011, 04:01 PM
Yes I can get the MRC switch and bezel for it. It's about $100 for those 2 parts, but you'd save $30 by not needing the non-MRC blank. So add $70 to your chosen kit price.

I already have the 3 gauge pack from you with the blank in place, so it would be $70 for the switch?

I already have the 3 gauge pack from you with the blank in place, so it would be $70 for the switch?

No.

Your current non-MRC blank becomes surplus.
You still need to buy 2 pieces (as per pic below)
2 MRC pieces fill the same hole as 1 non-MRC blank.

If you are buying the MRC switch and MRC bezel by themselves as not part of an existing shipment then you need to add $10 for airfreight.
2 MRC pieces as per pic shipped by Airfreight = US$110

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y20/PerthPurplePenguin/car%20parts/gauges/MRC13.jpg

This is the 2 pieces assembled.

This is a non-MRC blank which you already have.

I've got a set of 3 genuine HSV white faced gauges with all original hardware coming soon.
If anyone is interested I can install these parts into either a 5 gauge pod (this leaves you only needing to source 2 gauges and senders for 2 gauges) or I can install the parts into a bare genuine HSV triple pod to make a complete unit.
Installation harness can also be included so that connecting the 3 new gauges means no senders are required for them and there are only 6 wires to connect inside the car (not underhood).

I can do a bare triple pod and install kit anytime.

When the current supplier runs out of the 5 gauge pod housings.
I don't know how many they have remaining in stock & they are away on holiday now until Jan 12th 2015.
I placed an order for 3 pods which they should be able to supply. There's 10 more showing on Ebay at the current moment but they're selling like hot cakes.

Yair, about $300 more for equivalent packs once the HSV triple pod goes in......but then in the big picture you've got 2 less gauges to buy to fill it with.
Total job would work out around the same.

These are the gauges I used for my 5 pod install. Not sure it lists it but I asked for the silver center disk to match the stock G8 GT gauges. Oil temp and pressure and trans temp are CAN-BUS. Voltmeter just wires to switched power. The gauges come with a power cable that daisy-chains to all 5 that you connect to ground and dash lighting at headlight switch. CAN-BUS signals tap into ODB II wiring. The AFR gauge wires to WB controller (buy it separately).

The 5 gauge pod costs less but I paid $187 for gauges 4 and 5 plus the cost of a WB controller kit so you can do the math and see what makes the most sense for you.

Wow that's an incredible deal! I've been debating between the triple and 5 gauge pod for a while. At that price, I may be leaning towards the 5 gauge pod. Should know more after this weekend when I finally get to see my better half and exchange gifts. I learned my lesson on buying anything for myself before Christmas a few years ago. I don't want to deal with that wrath ever again! :stretcher:

Received mine today as well but when I saw the box, my heart sank to my stomach. I brought it in, took photos and then started carefully unpacking to see if my fears were true. Thankfully CP is the man when it comes to packing parts and everything made it in one piece! There is a tiny little edge that got a little scuffed up but that's on the back side of the center stack piece where no one is going to see it. Not sure why the second photo isn't oriented properly. Seems that some forums don't like photos from phones. Also thank you for the gift Paul!

I couldn't believe it when I saw it and even the mail lady who knows I have goodies coming from Australia just taking a quick glance at the box said that she hopes everything is okay inside. I gave it a look over and said to her "He is really good about packaging and even tho this looks pretty bad, I'm sure it's okay." Luckily it was! I took notice that this piece went thru ISC New York facility. With previous shipments I saw that they came in California and then headed across the nation. I've read quite a few horror stories about the ISC New York facility and needless to say I'm glad this wasn't in any worse of a condition.

Simply put, Crazy Paul rocks! Need to acquire a few more pieces before this gets installed but that will hopefully be sooner rather than later. Thanks again C.P.!

Normally all my stuff to USA arrives thru California but a month either side of Christmas I've noticed USPS opening up NY and Chicago as entry points also. I do remember one heavily beaten box and another that sat still in NY for 2 weeks around Xmas 2013.
Overall I do think the system has improved in the past couple of years.

plus a pair of rectangular air vents, some screws, and the twin rectangular outlet Y air duct.

No.
A) I've already bought 6 pods in one hit & have them sitting here. Savings have been included in the prices you can already see.
B) I have to ship the kits out one at a time directly to the customer because of the package size and different requirements of each customer.
C) Group buys are a nightmare for a vendor. Members are all gung ho and type their interest in the beginning & then when it's time to pay they suddenly find their grandmother needs a kidney transplant or their car hit a tree or they got kidnapped by aliens or the dog ate their homework.

The MRC switch can be used to control something as a basic on/off switch.
It's not going to magically give you magnetic ride suspension.

Here are the order details For the gauges I used. The only thing not reflected on the order is the silver disk I had them add in the center of the gauge. It added something like $10 to the entire order. The order gives the style and options. These worked will with a standard GT. I debated having them light white or red and decided on white because it better matched the GT speedo and tach. If you have red gauge faces in your G8, Speedhut can match those, also.

The Oil temp, trans temp and oil pressure gauges are CAN-BUS. If you would rather have a direct reading oil pressure gauge, CP sells a really slick and easy adapter to mount a sending unit to the top, rear of the block. Much easier and cleaner looking that fiddling with the oil filter housing adapter. You would need to order a direct reading oil pressure gauge instead of the CAN-BUS style shown on my order form. I do not know if Speedhut's prices have changes from the time I ordered mine.

Hope this helps. The panels and pieces I got from Crazy Paul and these gauges worked great and it all fit perfectly.

I ordered much of the same package as posted above with slight variation but you will need the can-bus OBD2 harness that speedhut sells. I believe it is free with a certain amount of gauges but I had to add it separately. Instead of volts I am running fuel pressure so I had to be sure to get one that had the sender I wanted to run as they have multiple variations, but it was included.

So when I order mine should I just ask for the "silver disk on the needle centers to match my G8 GT"? I imagine email them to make sure they understand what I'm talking about and then note it in the comments when I order.

Slightly off topic but wanted to know if when you put the main gauge cluster into night time mode, do the 5 extra gauges have their power and illumination cut as well? Going to fit some Speedhut gauges in my 5 gauge pod as well.

Never tried. I did tap the gauge illumination power from the same line used for the dash.

Yep, it got to the office before noon... Again, excellent job on packing!

After I placed the order and got a confirmation from them, I called and asked them if they had a disk for the center, like the G8. They knew immediately what I wanted and that was that. The rest is history, as they say.

Paul, how much for an M6 shifter plate? Mine has some scuffs...I'd take one or two as needed [if its cheaper etc on shipping / otherwise?]

Reflecting back, just a few ideas-
Anyone considering this mod, it's not as hard as it looks. I used the directions for installing the 3 gauge pod from the JHP site and picked a few brains through PM's. I did have the luxury of the car not being a DD, but if you had an early start and everything laid out it can be done in a day.
First, took 7 days to get the parts from CP, they came expertly packaged and in perfect shape. I opted for the plain cubby, not the front smoker's package. Lost my 12v aux power outlet, but that is an excellent place to draw power and ground from. I'll re-add it at some point.
Speedhut has a great product. One thing I would check into is whether or not you can custom order the length of any sending unit wires that feed in from the engine compartment. My fuel pressure and boost leads came waaaaay too long. I took at least 40 inches out of each one, and could have trimmed a bit more. Just couldn't see trying to hide all that excess.
If they'll do it, it will save some time.
The only other modification I had to do was remove the nubs off several of the mounting rings that screw onto the gauge backs and hold them in place. Just not enough clearance by k there.
Used Velcro to fasten the lighting inverter to the side of the HVAC duct behind the radio.
I glued a thin piece of that white packing paper like foam to the HVAC ductwork under the center stack just to make sure none of the small wiring harnesses would rattle.
Ran my light/power/ground and lighting inverter harnesses on the passenger side. The OBD lead, FP, and boost leads on the driver's side.
The yellow wire in the headlight switch is dimmable power. You just tie the inverter into that. If they send you an inverter with a small dimming switch, they suggest just turning it to high and tying it off. Before I reassembled the pass side pieces and glovebox assembly, I drilled a hole through the inner side of the glovebox and mounted the switch and then installed the glovebox. When you open it, you have access to it from inside. Looks factory.
Only slightly scary part was splicing into the OBD port. Make sure you have the battery disconnected. My understanding is what with 4 canbus gauges, you get a plug in adaptor. Otherwise you have to tie into the OBD harness. There's not a lot of wire/room to work with. Make sure you have a pair of front crimpers, not the ones where they're between the handles or you're screwed. It's kind of a one shot deal and you want to get it right. If you're worried about it, just make sure they provide(or you buy) the plug in adaptor.
It's going to show, but it takes the stress out of it.
You're going to be working with small gauge wire. If you know anyone who has a ColdHeat soldering tool, it works wonders.
Took CP's advice, and reassembled from the console up. There are places you can reassemble the parts without using the white plastic clips. I skipped some with the idea that it would make disassembly easier if the need ever came up. I have no squeaks, rattles, etc. after doing this.
Hope this helps

I notice the post on US Dollar vs Aus money would this mean the price of the kit could be more or less on any given day? How much for the three gauges like your HSV kit? And if you have that kit available too?

bad news man , paul retired and no longer sells

Isn't there one for "possible sale" in one of the cars for sale ads?
Might be on the "other" board, but I know I saw one in the last day or so.
